APOLOGIES, THIS POSITION IS NO LONGER RECEIVING APPLICANTS TO HONOR THOSE WE ARE MOVING FORWARD WITH.

Lead Pastor of Connection Church

(Please read entire post and make sure to include ALL items if you apply in the manner we've asked for. Thanks!)

Connection Church is all about loving and leading all people into a fully-alive connection with God. We're a 14-year old non-denominational church who has for years been blessed with exponential impact in our Northeast Ohio suburb of Medina (a bedroom community to Cleveland and Akron).

So who are we? And what are we looking for?

We love the Lord. Somehow we've become a church for people who really need Jesus but perhaps didn't fit into other churches. We're creative but not at the expense of being anchored to Christ; we preach the Bible while making sure it's handed out in ways that reach people of varying spiritual backgrounds; we want to live by faith, to be known by love, and to be a voice of grace and hope.

Right now we're taking a bold step to leave our building of 8 years in a business district in order to be in a space closer to where people in our community live. We are looking for our next visionary lead pastor who will align with our hearts and take us to the next level of seeing God’s vision for this area (and beyond) become a reality—not just through programs at a building but through equipping our people to serve uniquely in their own spheres of influence.

About Medina, Ohio
Medina is a growing county of 167,000+ filled with people of all ages and all walks of life. Our community has both a suburban-yet-hometown feel, made up of various groups of people. This includes a lot of people who aren't in churches right now as well as others who are, be it young professionals in their mid-thirties, families trying to get their kids off to the next extracurricular, farmers who live in some of our more rural areas, and other locals who have grown up working their whole lives in area businesses. That means there are many who are pursuing momentary happiness and others pursuing true joy in Christ. It is a true mission field.

Our next target area will reach 150 families who drop their kids off at a local daycare along with the hundreds and hundreds of others in the surrounding neighborhoods. We want to inspire our community to think of the things of God and be transformed by Jesus Christ.

About Connection Church
Connection Church was founded in 2003 and held its first public Sunday gatherings in a local movie theater. We have met in two other locations since then and have at times had multiple staff. Right now we are a volunteer-intensive movement where the senior pastor equips the people into maturity to do the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4). Sunday services are a time of celebration and challenge where we speak to the disenfranchised and outcasts as well as the saved and solid. We aren’t afraid of controversial subjects but our goal is to present Jesus through gatherings that are dynamic, experiential, engaging, relevant, accessible and practical. Using the scriptures as our compass, we boldly encourage one another to live a life fully surrendered to Christ’s work in and through us. The idea is that if we lift Jesus up all people will be drawn to Him.

The atmosphere is very casual. That serves us well in one respect, but it can also keep people in their seats. While Connection's strengths are unique so is our next challenge. It will require a visionary leader with an evangelistic heart who knows how to call out and build a team while executing healthy systems.

The reason we wrote "not applicable" on our numbers is because God has somehow always used us beyond our in-house numbers. For four years, we contributed to a newspaper column that reached 63,000 people weekly with a clear message about Jesus Christ. We also helped launch a sister church and school in Kenya. We've done this while at times being no greater than 200 people. These days in addition to our attendees we have a committed core group of more than 40 leaders of all ages who are willing to help lead the charge in what's next.

Why the transition?
Our current Lead Pastor Tony Myles has been with us for more than ten years and has been used by God in several ways to guide Connection Church forward. The only reason for the departure is a spiritual one - much like Moses wasn't allowed into the Promised Land that he led the Israelites to, Pastor Tony has sensed a similar "stop here" in his spirit as Connection Church endeavors ahead. He will be a resource-from-afar to whomever God brings in.

What type of person are we looking for?
We are looking for a spiritually rooted, visionary leader who can inspire our community—someone to add to our core so we can charge forward together. We are not looking for someone to merely DO ministry, but to especially inspire and equip US for ministry.

Ideally, we will find someone with lots of past leadership experience as well as on-the-ground experience with creating disciples within the context of groups. This involves someone with a good track record in character, too. We understand the complexities of modern leadership and we are open to many kinds of candidates, though. This could include a younger leader whom we feel God has His hand on.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Be an imperfect-yet-growing Christ-follower who is able to teach others to do the same.
  • Serve as a member of the Lead Team to set the vision and direction for Connection Church.
  • Be the primary communicator in our Sunday Gatherings.
  • Develop leaders to build and empower teams that will deploy systems for the church.
  • Rally the church to reach out to our next neighborhood as we launch in August.
  • Help Connection Church meet its spiritual and financial goals.
  • Understand and model the values of prayer, evangelism and discipleship.

Instead, apply to tony@connectionchurch.org with your resume, cover letter and any video samples of you teaching (or feel free to record a simple five-minute greeting on video that you link us to).

In addition to the resume and video, please also include:

  • Your salary and benefit needs so that we can tell up front if we are in your range with what we are able to provide.
  • Answer these two questions with a specific instance of each: (1) Describe a time you succeeded, and (2) Describe a time you failed.

Thank you for considering Connection Church! We are prayerfully seeking the Lord with you.

BE the Church.
