Student Ministries Associate Job Description (40 hours, full time)

First Baptist Church, Cambridge, MN

 

Personal Characteristics Desired:

  1. A committed Christ follower, demonstrating spiritual and personal maturity in their faith and life
  2. Regularly practicing personal spiritual disciplines such as Scripture study and prayer
  3. Has a love of students in 6th-12th grade and has a passionate desire to help them know, love, and become like Jesus
  4. Ability to provide engaging, dynamic and high energy up front leadership and teaching of 70+ students and has good verbal communication skills to engage large groups
  5. Willing to learn and put into practice new teaching methods outside of up front teaching
  6. Has ability to build rapport and trust with parents of students and has good communication skills with adults
  7. Willingness to listen, receive feedback, adjust, be a team player, and work with others to provide excellent ministry to students
  8. Has a genuine spirit of loyalty and teamwork arising out of respect and willingness to learn from and work with the Pastor of Student Ministries
  9. Humble, team player who is willing to learn, and desires to grow in ministry abilities through a mentoring relationship with the Pastor of Student Ministries
  10. Comfortable recruiting, training, encouraging, and working with adult volunteers
  11. Prefer experience working with students in crisis and/or families in need

 

Responsibilities:

  1. The job of Student Ministries Associate will have an emphasis on leading ministry to Sr. High students as directed by Pastor of Student Ministries but will occasionally be asked to teach, lead and work with Jr. High students to help create overall alignment between the two ministries
  2. Lead Sr. High up front Biblical teaching and programming on Wednesday nights approximately 3-4 times per month
  3. Teach quarterly or recruit quarterly teachers for Sunday morning Sunday School
  4. Plan and lead Sr. High events, retreats & mission trips with assistance of the Pastor of Student Ministries
  5. Develop mentoring relationships and meet regularly with 1-2 Sr. High students
  6. Assist Pastor of Student Ministries in leading the Sr. High Leadership Development Program
  7. Work with Pastor of Student Ministries to create alignment between Jr. High and Sr. High Ministries
  8. Work with Thrive volunteers to create effective transition between Sr. High ministry and adult ministries of our church
  9. Work with Pastor of Student Ministries to create intergenerational opportunities between youth and adults
  10. Recruit, train, lead, equip and encourage adult volunteers to provide ministry to Sr. High students
  11. Regularly connect with students outside of youth programming
  12. Attend staff meetings and staff retreats and works closely with all staff members with a willingness to help with church wide events and pastoral care duties
  13. Commit to doing life together at First Baptist including participating in worship, life groups, events, prayer gatherings, etc.
  14. Will become a member of First Baptist Church and remain a member in good standing
  15. Will personally invest in the overall mission and vision of First Baptist Church
  16. Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  1. A personal, growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  2. A significant understanding of God’s Word and an ability to teach the Bible to large groups of students
  3. An ability to relate well and work with students in 6th-12th grade and their parents
  4. An ability to relate well and lead adult volunteers
  5. Degree in youth ministry or 1+ years of relevant experience and willing to pursue additional education
  6. Demonstrate integrity in all areas of life and ministry
  7. In agreement with the First Baptist statement of faith and willing to adhere to our policies and procedures
  8. Has gifts in teaching, leading, shepherding with a heart of compassion and a desire to share the gospel and disciple students

 

Relationships:

  1. The Student Ministries Associate will report to the Pastor of Student Ministries
  2. Meet weekly for prayer, training, planning, accountability, encouragement, etc. with Pastor of Student Ministries
  3. Works closely with other staff to integrate and align Sr. High ministry with overall staff plans, church mission, and church vision
