Job Description:

Pillar Church in Holland, Michigan is eager to welcome to its staff team and congregational life a full time Children’s Ministries Director. This is a full time, salaried position with a benefits allowance. The position focuses on children between the ages of 0 and 5th grade. The primary foci of the position is to create, implement and oversee a space of belonging, a process of discipleship and opportunity for mission. All interested applicants are encouraged to apply. Purpose: To empower the congregation of Pillar Church in its mission to raise up leaders by developing, nurturing and supporting the children’s ministries of the church (ages 0 to grade 5) in such a way that children grow up in “the truth of God’s word and in the way of salvation through Jesus Christ, are prayed for, are taught to pray and experience the strong support of the church in worship and in service.”  

 

Responsibilities: 

 

  1. Develop:

 

a. changing congregational dynamics in a changing cultural climate require the church always to be innovative in the way that it seeks to raise up its children “in the truth of God’s word and in the way of salvation through Jesus Christ.” For this reason, Pillar must always be willing to develop new opportunities for our children and seek to engage children from our community with the gospel of Christ. 

 

2.   Nurture: 

 

a. In order to nurture our children in the Christian faith it is necessary for Pillar to provide opportunities to teach Bible lessons and faith lessons with regularity and excellence. This may be accomplished through:

 

i. infant and toddler nursery

ii. little lambs 

iii. children and worship 

iv. Sunday School

v. Baby blessings

vi. Date night

vii. 4th and 5th grade girls/boys small group

viii. Young Disciples Class

ix. other new opportunities

 

b. In order to nurture parents as they seek to raise their children in the Christian faith it is necessary for Pillar to provide opportunities for families to gather together. This may be accomplished through: 

i. church picnic

ii. advent workshop

iii. Christmas pageant 

iv.  Ash Wednesday service

v. stations of the cross event

vi. summer family picnics

vii. other new opportunities

 

3. Support:

 

a. The number of children in our care and our desire to engage and welcome more and more young families require that the children's ministries director equip and empower congregational members to carry out many of the specific opportunities and events. This may be accomplished through: 

 

i. Sunday School teacher training

ii. Children and Worship leader training

iii. teacher/leader follow up

iv. new teacher/leader orientation

v. other new opportunities

 

4. other:

 

a. The Children’s ministries of Pillar Church are meant to be done collaboratively with other ministries and ministry leaders. For this reason participation as a full member of the staff team is necessary. 

 

Accountability: The Children’s Ministries Director is directly responsible to the Worship Arts and Discipleship Pastor and generally responsible to the Lead Pastor and the Pillar Church Council.
