Job Description:


The Executive Pastor is a new position and will be a vital member of CEFC’s staff. This position contributes by (i) creating, implementing, and sustaining systems and structures that support and further CEFC’s vision from both an organizational and pastoral perspective and (ii) overseeing staff by providing coaching, assistance, and consistent oversight to enable those staff members to successfully accomplish their respective goals and responsibilities.


The Executive Pastor reports directly to the Lead Pastor. The Lead Pastor is accountable to the elder board.  


The needed QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS for Executive Pastor:


1. A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ with a vital and growing relationship with Him


2. Committed to moral purity and, if married, a healthy relationship with his wife and family


3. Meet the qualifications for elder found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; and 1 Peter 5:1-4


4. Possess a doctrinal position that is complementary to Calvary Church


5. A college degree is required


6. Education or experience that supports the role and functions of Executive Pastor is required


7. Biblical training from a bible college or seminary (or willingness to obtain necessary education in the course of the job) is preferred


8. Successful experience in overseeing systems, staff and ministries at a medium or large church or the equivalent corporate experience


9. Knowledge of budget, financial, and fiscal management procedures


10. A basic knowledge of human resources issues and guidelines


11. Possess the proven ability to qualify, recruit, train, release and lead leaders


12. Excellent interpersonal skills


13. The ability and gifting to preach one or two times annually is preferred but not required


14. A self-starter


15. Ability to take a desired vision, create timely process to implement it, and lead a team to accomplish it


16. Awareness of trends in organizational management and a demonstrated track record of successful experience handling organizational management issues


17. An awareness of their gifting and passions and a desire and calling to serve in a second chair/right hand person role to a Lead Pastor.  The Executive Pastor is called to a different role than a Lead Pastor.  The ideal candidate will not see this opportunity merely as a “stepping stone” to an eventual Lead Pastor/primary Teaching Pastor role.



The specific DUTIES of the Executive Pastor involve the following:


1. Create, implement, and sustain systems, structures, and/or ministries that support CEFC’s vision from both an organizational and pastoral perspective


2. Oversee staff through coaching, assistance, and consistent oversight to enable those staff members to successfully accomplish their respective goals and responsibilities


  • The Lead Pastor will build relationships, mentor and cast vision to pastoral team and staff.  The Executive Pastor will then set and oversee measureable goals to move CEFC’s vision toward reality within each ministry. The Executive Pastor will provide regular feedback to staff to ensure that goals are being accomplished and professional development is occurring
  • The Executive Pastor will handle all day-to-day, operational issues and assist staff in making operational decisions to move the ministries forward
  • Oversee the creation of individual ministry calendars and larger church calendar
  • In conjunction with Lead Pastor, work with staff to create annual strategic plans within ministries that comply with CEFC’s vision and larger strategic plan
  • Oversee the launching of any new ministries

3. Responsible for creating and overseeing church policies for all ministries and staff under their oversight


4. Work with Lead Pastor, and in compliance with church constitution, to oversee the recruiting, selection, training, development, evaluation, and (if needed) termination of present and future support staff and pastoral staff


5. Ensure CEFC is compliant in all human resources issues and policies


6. Ensure that the decisions of elder board are operationally implemented


7. Work closely with Lead Pastor and elders to continue to assess and recommend issues that need addressing or new ways of strategically operating for future and ongoing development of church ministries and future impact


8. Responsible for coordinating the annual budget process and overseeing the budget


9. Responsible to oversee CEFC’s financial team and financial processes


10. Handle various pastoral responsibilities, as needed and based on gifting, such as funerals, weddings, or visitations
