The Rock Church was founded in February 2000 by Pastor Miles McPherson. God has guided the Rock Church through major milestones and miracles in its short life. What began in an SDSU auditorium in February 2000 has grown into an army of 18,000 soul winners who attend every Sunday in-person or online. About the Position:

The Director or Marketing and Communications will be responsible to champion the leadership of the Marketing and Communication team, as well as oversight of the communication and strategies associated with the Rock Church and Academy. As the chief communications and marketing strategist working alongside the leadership team and all internal ministries at the Rock Church, this role is responsible for tracking and analyzing data to determine the success of Rock Church's messaging. The successful candidate will oversee and implement brand messaging and ensure the accuracy of its delivery by producing each element (print, electronic, or online) with creativity and consistency in order to advance the mission of the Rock Church, to Save, Equip, and Send.

Core skills and abilities necessary for this position will include:

  • Project management experience in a fast-paced environment with multiple moving parts.
  • Work productively, independently and collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality as appropriate.
  • Possess proven experience in team building, creative thinking, systems management, and creative problem solving.
  • Working knowledge of Marketing and Communication, Strategic Planning, eMarketing, Social Media, Advertising, Media Relations and Public Relations. 
  • Able to develop and leverage volunteer leadership.
  • Experienced in writing, including the ability to draft clear and effective materials including marketing materials, fact sheets and FAQs; strong editing and proofreading skills preferred but not required.
  • Personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, judgment and accountability.
  • A creative and flexible individual who is comfortable working in a large, complex organization.


  • A bachelor’s degree in communication studies, marketing, business, public relations (or similar field) preferred.
  • 5+ years in a marketing and/or communications management
