Ministry Description

Consistent with all other positions at Christ Church, the goal of this position is to enable others to obtain a closer union with God.


By serving as the chief staff administrative leader, the Business Administrator will collaborate with Clergy, Staff and Lay leadership in the oversight of administrative functions of the Parish as designated by the Rector and his designees.


The duties of the office will be performed with a focus on teamwork, service, communication, collaboration, and engagement with staff and parishioners alike to foster an environment of Christian service with an emphasis on ways to continuously improve.


This position reports to the Rector


Position Description

The BA has responsibility for:

1. The accounting, cash management, and payroll functions of the Parish and the EC

2. Administration of benefit plans

3. Oversight of Churchyard/cemetery property transactions and record keeping

4. Maintenance of the Parish Physical plant and the Churchyard/cemetery

5. Serving as Support for all Ministry Areas and lending assistance as needed

6. Business Office liaison with Parish affiliates and community partners

7. Oversight for all record keeping and contracts

8. Liaison with all suppliers and service providers of CCGSC

9. Other duties as assigned by the Rector or his designees

10. Supervision and oversight of both the Facilities and Business Office staff

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. 1.     Operations
  2. a.      Ensure that contracts or other legal documents receive appropriate development and professional review
  3. b.     Supervise and oversee maintenance staff of the Parish and ensure maintenance needs are met
  4. c.      Administer the cemetery, including sales and buybacks of plots and niches, working with grieving families, and planning funerals.
  5. d.     Provide support to the Grounds Committee
  6. e.      Supervise and oversee Business Office staff and ensure business support needs are met
  7. f.        Provide administrative support for staff of church and preschool
  8. In the hiring and termination of employees
  9. Resource for managers and employees on benefit programs
  10. Responsible for accuracy and compliance in recordkeeping of employee hours, benefits and eligibility.
  11. Responsible for maintaining current HR files for all employees
  12. Responsible for communication and consistent application of accounting and HR policies.
  13. g.      Maintain relationships with Church Insurance and Church Pension corporations
  14. h.     Keep Policy manual up to date and ensure compliance by lay staff, and volunteers, in consultation with the Rector and Wardens.
  15. i.        Attend executive and board meetings of CCEP and board meetings of Canterbury Counseling Center
  16. 2.     Fiscal
  17. a.      Oversee the fiscal health of the Parish, oversee the outsourced and staff accounting personnel, and work closely with the Treasurers, Director of Resource Development and external auditors. Provide functional support for CCEP financial analyst. Assure that an accurate financial picture is presented to the Rector and Vestry.
  18. b.     Anticipate resource needs for future regular and strategic endeavors
  19. c.      Administer preparation of the annual budget and attend all budget committee meetings.
  20. d.     Work with staff and committees to ensure appropriate use of resources and monitor expenses
  21. e.      Provide support to the Finance Committee
  22. f.        Oversee financial support for the Endowment, provide support for the Endowment Board, and provide support to the Director of Resource Development in communicating with donors
  23. 3.       IT
  24. a.      Administer the outsourced IT maintenance contract
  25. b.     Manage relations with ACS Technologies, church database provider, and administer ACS to church staff and volunteers
