Job Description:

The Minister or Director Youth Ministry will help us achieve our mission to nurture young people’s connection to God, to Christ, to our Church, and one another, and to support their spiritual growth into joyful, resilient, and flourishing lives.

 

This could be an ordainable position.  It is open to all Christian Denominations


This is a full-time staff position with benefits reporting to the Senior Minister and works with the Youth Board to implement our sustainable youth ministry programs for Middle School and High School youths. This person will have strong leadership skills and abilities to connect with people, develop and lead teams and engage the Congregation in supporting our sustainable youth programs. This person will be excited about joining a Church where teamwork, collaboration, and accountability are important values.

Major Responsibilities:
In alignment with established curriculum template, this position is responsible for: 

  • Planning and implementing major events for High School and Middle School students, generally three times per month. 
  • Planning and implementing Sunday School classes for Middle School students, generally three times per month. 
  • Planning and implementing Confirmation Classes for 9th grade students, including activities aimed at Christian faith formation and creating long term bonds between the students.  
  • Leading the Youth in delivering Worship Service, generally three times a year.  
  • Creating small group discussion opportunities for Youth, generally three times per month.  
  • Partner with Director of Children and Family Ministries and Board of Christian Education to transition students between Children’s Ministry and Youth Ministry. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a roster of volunteers and potential volunteers to fill roles as defined on the Strategic Plan organization chart. Maintain a Master Recruiting list. Fill roles with volunteers.  
  • Lead volunteer staff in their roles supporting the key functional areas - including Operations, Christian Formation/Development, Volunteer Recruitment, and Fellowship, Mission & Fundraising. 
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and Boards on joint programming when appropriate.
  • Plan and implement an annual calendar of activities and publish for families prior to commencement of program year. 
  • Oversee annual youth mission trip. Develop volunteers to support the trip as described in Plan documents. 
  • Provide emotional and spiritual support to youth and their families. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent must be able to meet the physical demands associated with fairly strenuous youth outings and the physical capability of keeping up with teens in settings such as campouts, lock-ins, mission trips, game nights, car washes, or similar activities.
Qualifications: 

• Must embrace Christian discipline and United Church of Christ doctrine and theology.
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field is minimum requirement. Professional Certification in Christian Youth Ministry is desired.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a youth ministry within the parameters of the Congregational Church (United Church of Christ).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with youth, diverse individuals, and teams of volunteers.
• Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
