Job Description:

Chapelstreet Church is a multisite church in the far west suburbs of Chicago. We are a place to experience grace, grow in faith, and make an impact - for where you are.

Our third campus will open in Fall 2017. We are currently remodeling our largest worship space with new AVL, lobby and room design. We offer six different worship services per weekend including Contemporary, Traditional and Word and Table, a modern liturgical service.


The Technical Arts Director is a full-time position and will provide leadership to Chapelstreet Church’s technical operations, including audio, media/video, staging, lighting, and visual arts. The director also provides leadership and developmental training for paid staff and volunteers using technical production tools.

Key Responsibilities:


Working under the leadership of the Pastor of Worship Ministries, the Technical Arts Director has overall responsibility for all technical production requirements, including all weekend worship venues and all mid-week and special ministry events requiring use of technical production tools.


Specific duties include these:


  • Execute vision of Worship Pastor regarding weekend worship and all productions. 
  • Ability to mix audio to objective standards set by the Worship Pastor and train others to do the same.
  • Recruit, train and schedule staff and volunteers necessary to produce worship and other ministry events, including 
    • all technical production for weekend worship at all venues
    • all mid-week (Monday-Saturday) adult, student and children’s regular programming
    • all special ministry events; including worship productions, baptisms, weddings, funerals and events involving outside groups
  • Assist in designing worship environments; create and install lighting and stage sets.
  • Maintain technical production equipment and spaces with an emphasis on high standards of organization and installation.
  • Manage AVL inventory and equipment in all technical spaces across all campuses.
  • Work with Worship staff to plan for necessary equipment maintenance and purchases.
  • Perform necessary equipment maintenance, maintenance and organization of all technical spaces, and equipment purchasing.
  • Develop and ensure compliance with technical production procedures and processes.
  • Serve as production operator (media, sound, lighting etc.) when volunteer staffing is unavailable to meet worship and ministry event needs. This includes on-call response.
  • Execute, along with Worship staff and technical volunteers, all technical setups and tear downs for all rehearsals, worship, and special events
  • Manage part-time technical staff (currently 3) to best accomplish mid-week and weekend services.

    • Ability to represent the vision of the Worship Pastor and staff correctly and appropriately in various environments. Ability to support the vision of the Lead Pastor and Senior Leadership Team of Chapelstreet Church.
    • Ability to maintain composure, and to model life-long learning and teachability. 
    • Able to use, and to coach volunteers to use, technical production equipment.
    • Strong ability to communicate clearly and in necessary detail, both verbal and written, proficient in spelling and grammar to write and edit correspondence and training materials.
    • Highly relational and very capable of providing effective leadership to paid staff and volunteers
    • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments 
    • Ability to enhance positive team environment built on creativity, innovation, communication, collaboration, and continuous improvement
    • Degree in media arts, production/post-production or related discipline preferred


Minimum Qualifications


    • At least 3 years experience in a paid, technical staff position or key leadership role at a church or professional Audio/Visual capacity.
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb stairs and ladders and work from a height of 20-30 feet in the air
    • Problem Solving skills
    • Higher Education or advanced training preferred
