Hope Point Church of the Nazarene:


The pulse of our church is loving God, loving others and serving our community.  Our community knows Hope Point as the church that loves and cares for neighborhoods.  We are a gathering of people who want to see the Kingdom of God advanced.  We have seen God move in powerful ways through healings, baptisms, stories of redemption, professions of faith, lost loved ones coming home, shared meals and possessions, missional living, constant prayer, inspiring worship, and applying God’s word to our daily lives.  Our youth and children’s ministry continue to reach the next generation in creative and relevant ways.


Associate Pastor of Discipleship 

The role of the Pastor of Discipleship is to oversee the connection and spiritual growth strategy of Hope Point under the direction and leadership of the Lead Pastor. This will require a firm grasp of the beliefs, values and strategy of Hope Point and the ability to align key leadership teams with its mission, vision and values. The PD will lead guests to a genuine sense of belonging, involvement and spiritual growth at Hope Point by meeting people where they are and leading them to next steps. The PD will facilitate relational connection and spiritual growth of adults through weekend guest connections, groups, volunteer teams, and assimilation of new members. The Pastor of Discipleship will be responsible for the following: 


1. Modeling Biblical Priorities: Responsible for upholding Biblical priorities and core values of Hope Point. The PD should represent a growing personal relationship with Christ. The PD models a strong relationship with his or her spouse (if married) and children (if applicable). The PD strives to fulfill his or her purpose in life and ministry while demonstrating integrity in words, relationships and actions. These objectives are accomplished by: 

• Committing to a daily quiet-time with God and participating in a Hope Point small group on a regular basis. 

• Setting appropriate boundaries to protect character and integrity. 

• Develop personal evangelism opportunities within the community and supporting the ministries of Hope Point by faithfully giving at least 10% of gross income.


2. Oversight and Execution of First Impressions: Responsible for creating an environment that welcomes new guests and provides next steps toward connection and spiritual growth: 

• Leading, equipping and empowering guest service volunteers (ushers/greeters/parking lot team/etc.) in providing high impact first impressions. 

• Removing roadblocks from a newcomer’s experience in all Hope Point services. 

• Providing volunteer team with current connection services best practices from innovative customer service focused organizations. 

• Ensuring that tables, booths, signage and key areas are clear, current, and focused on new people. 

• Planning and overseeing guest connection events. 

• Ensuring that the connection team answers questions and provides relational customer service.

• Creating and continuously improving follow-up methods to ensure that newcomers are plugged in to Hope Point.


3. Oversight and Execution of Small Groups Ministry: Constructs practical onramps and systems to help people move from visiting to belonging and growing: 

• Developing a systematic and strategic path to connect people in small groups (sign-up areas, stories, all-church promotions, webpage, etc). 

• Overseeing information and tracking of small group participants and leaders. 

• Implementing a leadership development strategy to identify, recruit, train, develop and coach small group leaders. 

• Working with the senior leadership team to develop a content strategy for small groups around sermon-based lessons and/or other resources. 

• Facilitating strategic conversations with other ministry leaders to incorporate “growth” opportunities in serving teams where appropriate.


4. Facilitate Connections on Volunteer Teams: The PD leads people in discovering their God-given shape and helps them plug into a ministry by: 

• Creating an environment and system that is conducive for plugging new people into ministry. 

• Working with ministry team leaders to recruit, train and empower volunteer team members. 

• Championing the leadership development strategy for volunteers. 

• Providing centralized opportunities for training leaders (retreats, tools, etc.) 

• Communicating clear vision and wins for volunteer teams on a regular basis. 

• Producing videos, verbal announcements, web page information, etc. about serving at Hope Point. 

• Building systems and structures that lead people from being spectators to volunteers. 

• Coordinating with ministry leaders to measure and monitor volunteer connections. 


5. Oversight and Execution of Hope Point Membership Strategy: The PD connects new attendees with the Hope Point vision. The PD also helps people discover their unique purpose and provides next steps in becoming a fully devoted follower of Christ: 

• Overseeing new member classes and connection opportunities. 

• Teaching Hope Point membership expectations and sharing benefits of Hope Point membership.
