Summary of Duties

The Children’s Pastor will help to fulfill the mission, vision, and values of CTK by leading the children’s staff to provide an authentic, Christian weekend experience for kids birth through 5th grade that effectively reaches out to the unchurched and challenges the churched in the same mission.


Essential Functions

  • Management of Children’s Ministry

    • Directly supervises all members of this team

    • Able to fill in for all other positions on the team for vacation, unexpected absences, etc.

    • Exhibits strong leadership toward the goals of team cohesion, healthy team dynamics and clear performance expectations

    • Facilitates productive, efficient team meetings to ensure communication and cooperation

    • Creates and manages the Children’s Ministry budget and calendar to promote stewardship and spend dollars in alignment with vision and that year’s specific goals

  • Stewards the vision for Children’s Ministry

    • Oversees all aspects of Children’s Ministry to create authentic ministry experiences and to ensure accessibility to a wide audience and age-appropriate content to both parents and their children

    • Fosters the relationship between Small Group Leaders and their kid’s parents

    • Sits on Adult Worship Creative Team, looking for ways to cross-germinate ideas, share, and collaborate, and when possible create some overlap in what children and their parents are learning

    • Collaborates with Student Life Ministry to maximize the transition from 5th to 6th grade, as well as to encourage leadership training opportunities for students in the kids’ programs

  • Coordination

    • Attend CTK staff meetings as well as lead Children’s Ministry meetings

    • Participate in Adult Worship Life Creative team meetings

    • Periodically participate in volunteer committee meetings (curriculum team, etc.) to support volunteers and to observe staff in their leadership roles

    • Attend volunteer training events, as appropriate

    • Attend applicable CTK training, be an active and effective learner

    • Perform all Pastoral duties (POC, Commons duties, Sacerdotal duties) and collaborate with CTK to carry out the mission of CTK



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • A minimum of 10 years ministry experience leading a ministry with 300+ children and have a proven history demonstrating spiritual maturity and leading leaders. 

  • Ministry experience at a large church setting of at least 2k attendees.

  • A degree and training in Christian Education or Theology - Master’s degree preferred. 

  • Competency in supervising team and managing 100+ volunteers and leadership development

  • Must be able to create and implement strategies that will align with the church’s overall strategic plan - the Roadmap at CTK Bellingham.

  • Ability to track several projects at the same time, monitor deadlines and expectations, address issues as they arise

  • Experience in leading and managing a staff of 3 or more people

  • Adaptable to lead staff of varied personality styles
