Director of Children's and Family Ministries - San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church

Position Title: Director of Children's and Family Ministries
Reports to: Senior Pastor


In collaboration with the Senior Pastor, is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of a vision, strategy and programs that will:
• Nurture spiritual formation for children from birth through fifth grade,
• Engage children's parents in the church and in faith formation practices at home,
• Design and foster programs to encourage inter-generational relationships throughout the church,
• Expand the community of children and families served by these programs, and
• Advance the church's mission and strategic plan.


1. Engage in relational ministries with children, including worship, spiritual formation and service.
2. Choose Christian Education curriculum and ensure that its use at each level of spiritual development connects to the next level (including transition to youth program).
3. Regularly communicate with parents (through such media as email, website, messenger, newsletter, snapchat, and Facebook) so that they experience a clear partnership in their children's discipleship and spiritual formation.
4. Develop a marketing program to ensure that families in the surrounding area become familiar with the church's children's programs and with the Tot Spot specifically to grow the use of that facility. 
5. Recruit volunteers for Sunday morning and other programs, lead them, and nurture their development.
6. Maintain healthy relationships and consistent communication with parents.
7. Oversee and enforce the Safe Sanctuary Policy to include training of staff and volunteers and update as appropriate. Approve and present employees' time sheets in a timely fashion.
8. Develop and work with Children's Ministries Council to cooperatively plan, direct and implement:
• Programs for children, including Vacation Bible School and Recreation Center (ARC)
• Special seasonal programs
• Invitational events for the community
• Annual budget for all children's and family ministries programs
9. Collaborate with other staff members to ensure:
• Children are involved in music ministries (with Music Director)
• That the SRVUMC children's ministry programs and ministries to weekday preschool are marketed to a wider community (with Preschool Director and Director of Membership and Mission)
• Coordination of common purpose and strategy with Preschool Director, to include leadership at preschool chapel, assist with Christian Education, and commission meetings 
• Care to families and children (with Pastors)
• Records are current for children and families' participation (with Office Administrator)
• Childcare programs, including Tot Spot and Sunday mornings, are properly staffed and operated.
10. Actively participate in weekly staff meetings and attend Church Council meetings.
11. Consistently engage in self spiritual and professional growth.


Experience: Two to three years of work with children, especially in a church setting.
Education: Preferred Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in education, Bachelor's degree a plus.


• Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with children, their parents, and church staff and members.
• Ability to teach others in Christian education.
• Ease with use of modern media for communication.
