About the Organization:

City Church officially launched on July 14, 2013, but its genesis actually occurred in the fall of 2012. Four couples met to discuss the need for a church in Evansville that would be deeply committed to the gospel of Jesus Christ and to the City of Evansville. Thus City Church, aptly named, was born. City Church launched on July 14, 2013 with the vision “to bring spiritual, social and cultural renewal to the city of Evansville and beyond through a movement of people who are being transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ.” Early on, the church dreamed of having its own facility. Numerous possible locations around the city of Evansville were considered and the church finally settled with a 47,000 sq. ft. property that was located downtown, which was a perfect location for a City Church “City Church.” By the summer of 2015, the church owned the building and began to grow exponentially.

Since that day, City Church has sustained its mission, and is extremely grateful for the manner in which God has blessed the church. It is the commitment of all leaders of City Church to be faithful both in words and actions to the gospel of Jesus Christ and to pour out God’s love and grace on the city of Evansville.

About the Position:

The Teaching & Community Pastor of City Church will have the opportunity to join a healthy and engaging teaching environment and will be responsible for overseeing and creating a strong dynamic culture of community within the church as well as taking on the oversight and direction of weekend connection ministries.

This position will be responsible for encouraging the growth of spiritually healthy individuals through providing leadership, teaching and connectivity while executing the vision of the church. Responsibilities include the assessment, development and ongoing maintenance of systems in the areas of membership assimilation, next steps, and such endeavors involving community development. This position will additionally be focused on providing inspiring, authentic biblical messages on Sunday mornings, and programs as needed.

This position will work under the direction of the Lead Pastor to facilitate the vision of the church, develop new programs in keeping with established goals, preach life-giving messages, and maximize the effectiveness of City Church as it ushers in a promising future of impact.


Who We Are Searching For/Qualifications:

A master’s degree in theology or a related field of study is highly preferred.

  • Ability to engage people with a compelling and inspiring message that leads to life transformation, promotes intellectual rigor, and spurs people to seek knowledge of God and the mysteries of the universe.
  • 3-4 years experience in a pastoral level leadership role, with successful execution of administrative and managerial duties.
  • Exceedingly gifted at building systems, recruiting people, and managing multi-faceted responsibilities.
  • Able to manage ministry responsibilities from a strong biblical foundation and conviction. Administrative abilities are key. Able to establish and maintain appropriate standards for the accomplishment of ministry in a way that honors both God and people.
  • Professional and mature inter-personal skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills-ability to communicate persuasively and compassionately both orally and in writing.
  • Must be a team player, promoting unity for the overall direction of the team and the Ministry.
  • Ability to be extremely flexible in a dynamic team environment.
  • Exude initiative, perseverance, follow-through and a ‘whatever it takes’ attitude.
  • Must have a strong commitment to handling conflict according to the precepts of Scripture.
  • Exhibit personal discretion concerning information shared or observed in the normal flow of church interactions, whether leaders, staff or members.
  • An ability to lead millennial ministry leadership.

About the Location:

Evansville, Indiana is the third largest city in Indiana and the largest in the southern part of the state. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 117,429 and a metropolitan population of 358,676. Located on the Ohio River, Evansville promotes typical Midwest living with its rolling hills and beautiful seasons. Outdoor lovers enjoy all that the seasons have to offer, including summer water recreation and fall festivals. The shopping center in Evansville attracts natives all across the state of Indiana. Because of this, the retail industry in the city is robust. Other major corporate headquarters and manufacturing centers include Atlas Van Lines, Toyota, Karges Furniture, Shoe Carnival, and Springleaf Financial.
