ROLE SUMMARY

The Director of MHCC Kids is responsible for the leadership, development, direction and implementation of the vision, strategy and tactical elements for all programs and activities related to children’s ministry (newborn through 5th grade) at Mendham Hills Community Church. For the right person, we would expand this position to include Junior High ministry under the direction/oversight of our Pastor of Student Ministries. Specific details for that role would be worked out based on the skill set of the applicant.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS 

  • Proven & demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to cast vision, build teams and develop leaders
  • Strong organizational, planning, administrative and communication skills, including multi-tasking, time management, prioritizing and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer and technical competence in applicable areas
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain healthy and motivating relationships with MHCC leadership, staff and volunteers

 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Establish and maintain a philosophy and long-term strategy for ministry in alignment with MHCC’s overall strategy, vision and goals
  • Work collaboratively with the staff to ensure children’s ministry is aligned with the initiatives of MHCC and contributing to the achievement of the overall vision and mission
  • Develop and maintain a well-planned, balanced program throughout the year, coordinated with the MHCC calendar
  • Bring children’s ministry visibility to the church as a whole on a regular basis
  • Provide strategic leadership - vision, development, direction and management - and oversight for all aspects of children’s ministry from newborn through fifth grade (Sunday mornings, Kids’ Clubs and other MHCC special events, etc.)
  • Recruit and build volunteer teams - set direction, organize, train and shepherd
  • Oversee and coordinate volunteer recognition and appreciation
  • Plan and conduct regular children’s ministry team meetings
  • Oversee or coordinate overall supervision for all programs, activities and special events related to children’s ministry
  • Create, coordinate and communicate scheduling and staffing for all programs and activities related to children’s ministry
  • Provide volunteers with all lessons, materials and resources needed to serve in their roles
  • Be accessible to volunteers and available to teach or assist when needed
  • Develop communication plans and disseminate information to keep staff, volunteers and parents informed
  • Regularly contribute to the MHCC social media presence
  • Develop and maintain a strategy for assimilating new children and their families
  • Develop, implement and maintain all safety and security processes, including background checks of volunteers and release/permission forms
  • Oversee check-in system and attendance
  • Oversee the overall appearance and decoration of all classrooms and physical spaces associated with children’s ministry, ensuring they are current, fun, organized, neat, clean and in good repair
  • Oversee, manage and care for equipment and “props”
  • Oversee the selection and implementation of curriculum
  • Oversee and manage the children’s ministry budget
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings, training and conferences
  • Pursue growth and development through reading, conferences and exchange of ideas with others
  • Collaborate with Student Ministries Pastor to ensure the smooth transition of 5th grade students into the youth program
