  • How would you describe your working theology for youth ministry?

  • Having looked at the job description for this position and the five goals for the Children, Youth and Family Ministry of Bethel (included below), what about your past experiences would lend itself to success at Bethel Lutheran Church?

  1. Recognizing that a vital faith is founded upon our connection to the story of God’s ongoing relationship with human beings as told in the Bible, Bethel’s CYF Ministry will make theteaching of the biblical story to the whole family a priority of its mission.

  2. Recognizing that a vital faith in children and youth is fundamentally linked to the faith of their parents and caregivers, Bethel’s CYF Ministry will make the development of strong parental and caregiver faith a priority of its mission.

  3. Recognizing that faith formation is fundamentally linked to family faith practices, Bethel’s CYF Ministry will make the promotion of family faith conversation, prayer, bible reading, and service a priority of its mission.

  4. Recognizing that families are not always confident in their abilities to nurture faith in their homes, Bethel’s CYF Ministry will make the equipping of parents and families for faith formation a priority of its mission.

  5. Recognizing the vital role of parents and families in forming the faith of children and youth, Bethel’s CYF Ministry will make the fostering of caregiver-child relationships a priority of its mission.

Throughout these goals, we continually refer to “parents” and “families.” In doing so, we fully recognize that the shape and make-up of families differs widely and that parents are not always the only or the primary family members through whom children and youth are formed in faith. While it is our intention to lift up the undeniably formative role of parents in the faith lives of their children, we also acknowledge, honor, and will support the many others who take up that role.
