Summary Statement:

Required Skills and Characteristics:


  • Deep faith and sincere relationship with Jesus Christ carried out through regular bible study, fellowship, prayer, worship, and the exercising of spiritual gifts
  • Passion for the Lord Jesus Christ and sharing the message of salvation with children and their families
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and counseling skills
  • A leader of leaders able to enlist, empower, and encourage lay ministers
  • Ability to work as a part of a team and autonomously with special projects
  • Ability to unite and empower others toward a common goal
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and other current technologies
  • Familiarity with curriculum design and philosophies of instructional delivery
  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record (insurable) with access to personal transportation
  • Must pass background check
  • Certified in Children CPR and Basic First Aid




  • Bachelors Degree is a minimum; Masters is preferred.
  • 5 + years of experience with Education, Counseling or Pastoral Ministry.
  • Experience leading and coordinating special events and volunteers


Duties and Responsibilities:


The Director of Families and Children is the primary vision caster for Christian Education for First Baptist Church of Hamilton.  The Director of Families and Children will serve as a part of the leadership team of FBCH, other ministry staff, and lay ministers to develop church-wide ministries of evangelism, discipleship, and nurture of families and children where every person grows in Christ through worship, community groups and is serving in ministry.


The Director of Families and Children will develop a leadership team and create an environment to stimulate children, parents and volunteers to know Christ and grow in Him.


  • Ministry Teams: The Director of Families and Children will recruit and coordinate teams of volunteers in the ministry to children. These teams will help to coordinate the ministry goals, plan activities, teach lessons, and help the Director of Families and Children with the ministry process.  Planning meetings and times will be coordinated by the Director of Families and Children, the Christian Education Board and Ministry Teams.


  • Community Outreach: The Director of Families and Children will develop and implement programs in the community for outreach with children and their families.  He/she will from time to time attend activities of children involved in the ministry for encouragement.


  • Family development: Director of Families and Children will develop and participate in ministries to strengthen families.  For children of these tender ages, family time is critical. 


  • Pastoral Care: The Director of Families and Children is considered a Director to children and their families.  All pastoral duties are implied including: counseling, hospital visitation, bereavement care, and visitation as coordinated with the Senior Director.


  • Training Teachers and Ministry Teams: Director of Families and Children will vision, plan, organize and facilitate the ministry of lay volunteers, and may supervise other ministry staff as assigned.


  • Meetings: The Director of Children and Families will participate as a member of the pastoral team in weekly staff meetings and retreats; in the monthly meetings of the Christian Education Board, and other meetings as assigned.


Use of Gifts and time: It is understood that the Director of Children and Families comes with other gifts and abilities that may broaden their ministry as time allows.  The Director of Children and Families is full-time with Pastoral benefits and is expected to keep accurate records while maintaining a 5 day/ 40-50 hour week.
