About the Position:

The youth pastor will provide vision, direction, and shepherding of the middle school (Grades 6-8) and high school (Grades 9-12) student ministries. This position is responsible to coordinate the overall ministry to students of The Rock Church. By and large, this role will recruit, train, and maintain volunteer leaders, student leaders, and student interns, alongside educating and ministering to students in the church. The student ministry at The Rock is a healthy, established, and vibrant ministry that is ready for a leader of leaders to step in and bring fresh vision and inspiration. There is a very well rounded and supportive volunteer adult and student leader base in place, in addition to a thriving paid student internship program.


What We Are Searching For:

The ideal candidate for the role of youth pastor will be passionate, strategic, and collaborative. Lone rangers need not apply. They will carry a spirit of humility, while striving to uphold quality and depth in teaching, relationships, and ministry operations. Success in this role will be determined by the following:

Developing and investing into volunteer adult leaders.
Training and replicating student leaders.
High priority placed on leader replication.
Developing and progressing relationships with students.
A vibrant small group ministry to students.
Planning of ministry events such a retreats, summer camps, serving opportunities, and training.
Spiritual growth evident among students and volunteer adult leaders.
Cultivating a student led worship experience, overseeing student led worship band and tech teams.



A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is preferred. Preference given to those with at least 3-5 years in ministry leadership. Additional competencies for the role include:

A proven record of effective leadership and accountability.
An ability to connect and build relationships with church leadership.
A shepherd’s heart to serve.
A high degree of communication skills.
A strong prayer life.
The ability to maintain a biblical work/life balance.
The ability to lead a large team of volunteer adult and student leaders.
Experience in casting vision, setting goals, and establishing measures for success.
Technology savvy.
Willing to relocate to Portland, IN
