Job Description:



To create a unified vision for worship that glorifies the Triune God, proclaims the infallible Word of God, and provides a platform to help people know and worship Jesus Christ. This will be accomplished by musically leading, equipping and shepherding musicians and worship arts staff and volunteers, and working alongside the Pastoral Staff to direct the worship planning process.





The Director of Music and Worship Arts (DMWA) will oversee the incorporation of choral and instrumental music, drama, video and visual arts in the traditional and contemporary styles of corporate worship at FPCE. The DMWA shall lead the music staff and volunteers in creating Holy Spirit-filled, musically excellent worship experiences at FPCE. In addition the DMWA may also incorporate and effectively utilize drama, video and the visual arts in a complementary and edifying manner, as suitable, in order to offer a fuller experience of worshiping the Lord.


The position reports to the Lead Pastor and is accountable to the Session.







• Under the direction of the Session and the Pastoral Staff, capture a vision and philosophy of


utilizing music and arts in worship congruent with Reformed and Evangelical theology.


• Articulate and implement that vision and philosophy of worship while working alongside staff and abroad collection of volunteers.


• Develop a long-range worship plan in cooperation with Pastoral Staff, which should include major festive worship events and various worship arts events or special services that may fulfill FPCEs vision.


• Play a leading, collaborative role in weekly worship planning meetings with the Pastoral Staff.





• The DMWA will participate in the Chancel Choir and Contemporary Worship Band in a participatory or leadership role as they deem most appropriate for the advancement of worship and creativity.


• Oversee, empower, and work together with worship staff including, but not limited to, the following: Associate Choral Director, Director of Contemporary Worship and Music, Sound Specialist, Organist, and Digital and Print Media Specialists.


• Coordinate and recruit volunteer and paid musicians and other appropriate volunteers, as necessary to perform the calling of the position.


• Incorporate the arts into our worship services where appropriate, by stimulating and encouraging drama and visual arts personnel.


• Work with Director of Children’s Ministries and Director of Youth Ministries to create a multi-generational worship culture, including worship leadership.


• Envision, craft, and create new worship opportunities that will serve FPCE’s mission to Gather, Grow & Go.


• Seek out opportunities to Go or engage in worship and music arts outside the FPCE facility in service of mission and encourage FPCE music groups to do so, as well.


• Oversee copyright compliance by church administrative personnel.


• Oversee music resource maintenance by various music and administrative personnel.


• Oversee management of the Worship and Music Arts Budget.





• Facilitate growth in Christ among those involved in the ministry of worship and the arts.


• Establish standards and maintain accountability for the worship philosophy, vision, and activities of each service by providing prayer support, credible feedback and mentoring of worship/music staff and volunteers when needed, and evaluations against the standards to identify progress in achieving the vision.


• Lead in identifying and recruiting both gifted and passionate people to serve in worship leadership roles.


• Facilitate, with the assistance of the Executive Director of Ministry Support, regular and constructive personnel evaluations of paid staff.


• Identify and attend with others seminars and conferences on worship leadership.


• While facilitating a culture of excellence, maintain a ministry of encouragement to all who offer themselves in the various forms of art or in support of our worship services.


• Facilitate and Enable appropriate times of Sabbath for worship staff and core volunteers.





• Maintain a daily personal devotion and quiet time.


• Facilitate mentoring relationships both as mentor and mentee.


• Attend weekly staff meetings, weekly worship planning meetings, and monthly worship committee meetings.





• Possess a deep love for Jesus Christ and His people as well as a desire to make and grow disciples.


• Have a passion for worship facilitated and enhanced by a vibrant devotional and prayer life.


• Be familiar with and supportive of many different worship styles, and be knowledgeable of a wide body of music worship literature.


• Have pastoral sense for mentoring and developing worship leadership and gifts in others.


• Possess musical gifts and be knowledgeable in the use of worship arts and their application.


• Possess a degree in music and possess experience in worship creation.


• Express a willingness and desire to become deeply enmeshed in the life, ministry, fellowship, and mission of FPCE.
