About the Location

First Miami is located on a 3.5-acre site on Miami’s Brickell Avenue to the west and the picturesque Biscayne Bay to the East. Brickell Avenue is the hub of the historic “Brickell” district that is Miami’s most densely populated area. The Brickell area serves as the financial capital of Miami and has many highly rated hotels, office towers and residential towers. In addition to its site on Brickell Avenue, the church also owns a manse in historic Coconut Grove and a 20,000 square foot site in downtown Miami.

Located nearly at the southeastern-most point of the continental United States, the city of Miami, which celebrated its one-hundredth birthday in 1996, conjures images of sunny beaches, tourists, and immigrants, and it is also a major center for international trade. Successive waves of Cuban immigrants have dramatically changed the ethnic composition of the city, which is now approximately 65 percent Latin and Hispanic, and informally known as "the capital of Latin America.” Miami today is a colorful, cosmopolitan city, reveling in its ethnic diversity.

Miami is a major center of commerce, culture, entertainment, the arts and international trade. Agriculture remains an important part of the Greater Miami economy. The region is the nation's leading supplier of vegetables during the winter season. As the only subtropical farming area in the continental United States, it is a leader in the production of tropical fruits and vegetables, with crops valued at $81 million annually. The Miami area also supplies one-fourth of all ornamental plants sold in the country. The city’s Civic Center has also become a significant hub for research institutes, medical centers and biotechnology industries. For more than two decades, the Port of Miami, known as the Cruise Capital of the World has been the number one cruise passenger port in the world. Miami is home to many entertainment venues, theaters, museums, parks and performing arts centers including the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, which hosts the Florida Grand Opera and Miami City Ballet. The Art Basel Miami Beach, the world's largest art exhibition is an event held annually and attracts thousands of visitors from around the world.

Miami is prominent for sunshine, cultural attractions (the Perez Art Museum Miami, the Frost Science Museum, Miami Children’s Museum, and the Arsht Center), a climate for year-round outdoor sports, great spectator sports teams (the University of Miami Hurricanes, who have won many national championships in college football and baseball, as well as the following professional teams that have won multiple World Championships – Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat and Miami Marlins), strong universities, exceptional healthcare and a strong Latin American influence.
