Job Description:

Position Summary:

Oversee the execution of student ministries at Cedar Rapids First Assembly. This includes recruiting and training a volunteer Student Ministries Team to implement the Student Ministries environment. This person must provide excellent leadership, clear communication, vision, direction, and motivation. They must embody First Assembly’s culture by being Authentic, Joyful, Inspiring, and Compassionate.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1.  The Youth Pastor must have a strong relationship with God, as evidenced by a healthy devotional and moral lifestyle


2.  The Youth Pastor must be an example of the type of Christ-follower that we want our people to become.

  • Embrace First Assembly’s vision, approach to ministry and culture.
  • Hold to the Assembly of God statement of beliefs. (See Education/Credentials below)
  • Become a visible example and model for our congregation.
  • Be loyal both to God and the team at First Assembly.

3.  The Youth Pastor must be someone that effectively develops personal relationships.

  • Be authentic, joyful, and winsome.
  • Be loving toward people, prioritizing others ahead of themselves, and engendering trust from those that they lead.
  • Demonstrate a passion and aptitude for making disciples of Jesus and prioritize his/her life and ministry accordingly.
  • Embrace genuine Christian community as the primary vehicle of discipleship at CR First.
  • Prioritize participation in a missional community, and be capable of providing Missional Community leadership.

4.  The Youth Pastor must be someone that communicates well informally.

  • Their interpersonal communications should be warm and engaging.?
  • Their upfront communications should be both relational and inspiring.
  • Provides comprehensive support to the Lead Pastor that ensures professional, responsive and effective messaging that represents the organization as a whole to internal and external audiences.  

5.  The Youth Pastor must be someone that excels as an action-oriented, team building leader.?

  • They must be able to select, align and lead leaders toward First Assembly’s vision.
  • They must demonstrate excellence in leading the congregation spiritually.?
  • They must demonstrate excellence in administration and communication with families.
  • The must demonstrate excellence in developing students who are disciples and leaders.
  • They must demonstrate excellence in training, empowering and releasing volunteer leaders.

Job Duties

1.  Lead the Student Ministry Volunteer Team.

  • Partner with the Pastoral team to identify potential ministry team members and strategies. ?
  • Inspire the Student Ministry Team to embody the vision and strategies of CR First. ?
  • Organize, equip and inspire the Student Ministry Team to serve according to their giftedness. ?
  • Equip the Student Ministry Team to disciple students. ?

2.   Oversee the discipleship of students by ensuring that every student is known and loved by a mature Christ-following adult. This includes developing and cultivating an incarnational presence with students in their day to day environments, i.e. find organic ways for you and your team to hang out with students.


3.  Develop missional communities of students that build relationships, encourage spiritual growth and offer comfort and support through the adolescent experience


4.  Ensure clear, consistent communication with students, leaders and parents concerning Student Ministry happenings.


5.  Work with the NextGen team to develop engaged, empowered and encouraged parents who participate in the discipleship of their children.


6.  Build Christ-centered relationships with:

  • Lead Pastor and staff
  • NextGen staff and volunteers
  • First Assembly congregation

7.  Create an environment that supports feedback, opinions and ideas from those in and around the ministry; as well as a culture that regularly seeks God and celebrates the fruit He has provided.


8.  Additional portfolio assignments will be assigned based upon strengths, personality type & experience.
