Job Description:

McDonough First United Methodist Church is seeking a full-time Director of Youth Ministry (referred to as “Youth Director”). This person is responsible for leading the ministries for middle school and high school youth (grades 6 – 12) in a nurturing and creative environment to build young disciples for Jesus Christ. Under the direction of the Senior Pastor and with guidance from the Youth Council (a team of 4 parents and 2 youth), the Youth Director is charged with developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to ministry in the areas of worship, discipleship, missions, outreach, and team unity. The Youth Director must possess a strong and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ in order to serve as spiritual leader and role model. The foundational principles of the youth ministry are to: • Love youth at whatever point they are in their growth and development, • Encourage youth in developing a personal relationship with God, • Foster nurturing conditions to cultivate discipleship; • Provide youth with a variety of opportunities for nurture, growth, and fun, and • Challenge youth to respond to God’s call to serve in their community and the world. McDonough First is located in McDonough, GA about 20 miles south of Atlanta. McDonough First is a well-established church with about 1,000 members. We have two traditional worship services on Sunday morning with Sunday evening fellowship dinner and programming for all ages. We have a variety of educational programs, small group studies, fun and recreational activities, and missional outreach opportunities for service. McDonough First operates a Christian academy for preschool through 5th grade. We are blessed to have a Family Life Center with a full-size gymnasium where we operate an annual Upwards Basketball program for children and youth in the county. Our current youth ministry consists of approximately 20-30 regular participants with a strong contingent of middle school and junior high students. Our youth are active, inquisitive, and creative and have a keen desire to learn about God and how to serve Him. We have recently renovated the youth programming space and now the Holy Grounds Coffeehouse serves as home base for ministry, music, and just hanging out. Salary is negotiable depending on experience. We would expect to pay between $40,000 - $50,000 per year for a full-time Youth Director. If, however, we are able to find a qualified candidate who is only available on a part-time basis, this position could be converted from full-time to part-time. We would like to fill this position by Summer 2017.
