Job Description:

Position Title:  Pastor of Family Ministries

Position Status:  Full-time, Exempt

Reports to:  Lead Pastor

Purpose of the Position

The purpose of this role is to lead and manage ministries and activities in this church that reach, nurture, and disciple children and to provide support to their families; this department will provide a clear path for spiritual growth and involvement, developing them to be future spiritual leaders.



Essential Functions:

1. Leads and manages ministries of the Children’s Ministry

a. In collaboration with the Lead Pastor, determines strategies, outcomes, and initiatives for the children’s ministry.  

b. Develops and manages the annual ministry action plan.
c. Identifies, develops, and supervises leaders for children’s ministry.
d. Establishes and sponsors teams for ministries to and with children.


2. Leads and manages Family Support Ministries
a. In collaboration with the Lead Pastor, determines strategies, outcomes, and initiatives for family support ministries.
b. Develops and manages the annual ministry action plan.
c. Identifies, develops, and supervises leaders for family support ministries.
d. Establishes and sponsors teams / groups for mutual support and spiritual growth.


3.Creates and manages programs for children.
a. Arrange for regular midweek children’s program.
b. Arrange for regular children’s programs for graded ages.
c. Ensure the choice and preparation of curriculum for children’s programs.
d. Arrange for summer programs for children.
e. Ensure that risk management policies and best practices are followed in all children’s programs and activities.


4. Creates and manages discipleship strategies for children.
a. Develop and implement age-appropriate discipleship classes for children.
b. Develop and implement paths and practices relevant to the spiritual growth of children.


5. Creates and manages the programs supportive of families.
a. Arranges for programs that enrich parenting and family life.  
b. Produces weekly parent connect video for distribution on social media.
c. Arranges for availability of childcare for all approved church ministries.


6. Establishes and oversees database management required to support systems of ministry connections programming.
a. Determines information needed from the church management software to confirm success of desired outcomes for ministries of connections.
b. Ensures that the necessary reports with needed information are produced in a timely manner.


7. Participates in worship as assigned by the Lead Pastor
a. Participate in designated roles in worship services as assigned.
b. Based on ability and availability preach/teach in worship services.
c. Coordinate participation of children in worship services.


8. Recruits and manages volunteers to support fulfilling the above functions
a. Creates position descriptions for each volunteer needed.
b. Ensures recruitment of candidates for all volunteer positions established.
c. Ensures training and supervision for each volunteer position.
d. Evaluates performance and satisfaction of volunteers in their roles.
e. Provides for recognition and appreciation of the contributions of volunteers.


Other key activities:

  1. Participates in general staff meetings or events as scheduled.
  2. Participates in training and engages in practices to effectively use teams.
  3. Participates in personal development to improve core competencies. 


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Advanced education such as Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a church-related field is required.
  2. Must pass criminal background checks as required for all persons working with children’s ministries at CenterPointe Church.
  1. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software for Apple Macintosh computers is required.
  2. Proficiency in church management software used by CenterPointe Church is preferred.
  1. Understanding of and alignment with the core beliefs and values, and the mission and vision of this church are required.
  2. A minimum of three years experience serving as a staff member or volunteer leader in CenterPointe Church or other similar faith community is required.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in conducting worship, teaching religious education, and providing pastoral care is required.
  4. Demonstrated experience in program or project management in a church or another field is required.
  5. Demonstrated experience in the effectively management of volunteers is required.
