Position: Executive Pastor of Discipleship

 

Forming an Executive Staff Team with the Operations Manager and Lead Pastor bringing a Spiritual Shepard primary leadership component

Qualifications:

A Graduate degree recommended with a Ministry/Theology emphasis

 

Objectives:

1. Direct and implement discipleship pathway, The Journey into every facet of our church.
2. Develop and oversee our Missional Initiatives Team in all aspects of local, national, and global mission.
3. Coach, lead and oversee Staff and Ministry Leaders under the direction of the Lead Pastor.
4. Champion Lay Mobilization and Team Building with our Staff and Ministry Leaders.

 

Competencies:

 

The Executive Pastor of Discipleship should:
• Profess a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
• Manage time efficiently and effectively, with a strong emphasis on effective organizational and planning
  skills.
• Demonstrate an ability to build teams and provide leadership that encourages continual growth and
improvement.
• Possess strong interpersonal skills, which include: compassion, sensitivity, and recognition of non-verbal
indicators within a conversation.
• Develop and maintain trusting relationships as well as being trustworthy.
• Exhibit leadership and an ability to organize people and events to complete tasks.
• Work independently and interdependently (team player).
• Display flexibility in dealing with change and seeing multiple perspectives.
• Demonstrate self-motivation, follow through and task completion.
• Show a sense of reliability and availability.
• Manage personal finances in a God honoring way while practicing the Biblical Tithe.
• Practice self-care, through personal daily devotion and prayer, regular worship attendance, commitment
  to a Life Group, and taking regular family days.

 

The responsibilities of this position are as follows:

 

1. Direct and implement our discipleship pathway, The Journey into every facet of our church.

 

          a. Work with our Executive Staff Team, Lead Team and Discipleship Team to implement our Vision
             “It’s all about The Journey” and our Mission “Come, Connect, Grow, Go” into our staff, ministry
              leaders and laity as our church DNA.


          b. Oversee all aspects of our Door to the Core Pathway including but not limited to our Welcoming
             Teams, Hospitality Teams, Connections Team, Life Groups, Classes, Bible Studies, Ministry
             Teams, Events, Trainings, etc…


          c. Work beside, coach and nurture these ministry/team leaders toward planning organization and
              development within the pathway.

 

2. Develop and oversee our Missional Initiatives Team in all aspects of local, national, and global mission.

          a. Develop and grow our Missional Initiatives Team and a build a team around Mission in Motion.


          b. Identify, coach and lead a champion for Advent Conspiracy.


          c. Bring focus and assistance to our missionaries, mission partners, short-term mission trips, and local
              outreach opportunities.

 

3. Coach, lead and oversee Staff and Ministry Leaders under the direction of the Lead Pastor.

 

          a. Proactively coach Staff Members and Ministry Leaders in how their ministry accomplishes our
             mission, vision and core values and clarifying their responsibilities, authority, and accountability.


          b. Bring accountability to Staff and Ministry Leaders for tasks, deadlines, and ministry planning through
             regular connection, follow-up and evaluation.


         c. Collaborate with the Lead Pastor for direction and partner with the Operations Manager for
             implementation.


         d. Assist in leading Staff Meetings and Ministry Leader Meetings.

 

4. Champion Lay Mobilization and Team Building with our Staff and Ministry Leaders.

 

          a. Identify and implement processes within our discipleship pathway that engage the laity of our
             church to be empowered to serve inside and outside the church.


          b. Coach and assist our Staff and Ministry Leaders in building, developing, and nurturing amazing
              teams of servant volunteers.


          c. Identify and remove roadblocks to people serving in ministry.


          d. Provide opportunities to recruit and orient new servant volunteers.


          e. Model to our Staff and Ministry Leaders the building of relationships with people to potentially
              serve in ministry.

 

5. Other duties that may evolve through program growth and development.

 

          a. Occasionally preach as scheduled by the Lead Pastor


          b. Assist with seasonal worship planning around Advent and Lent.

 

Reporting Relationships/Supervision:
This is a fulltime position, amenable to the Staff Parish Relations Committee per the Discipline of the United Methodist Church. The average work schedule is 45-50 hours per week.

This is a team position. It is important that the duties of this position be carried out in a cooperative and helpful manner relative to other staff of the Rolling Plains UMC and relative to members, constituents and visitors of Rolling Plains. The official policies for employment are contained in the Rolling Plains Employee handbook. The supervisor to whom this position reports is: The Lead Pastor.

 

Performance reviews will take place yearly.
