McGregor Baptist Church (McGregor) opened its doors in 1958 as Southside Baptist Chapel, just outside the city limits of Fort Myers on McGregor Boulevard. Originally an independent mission church pastored by evangelist Dan Perkins, 51 individuals attended the first Sunday service on June 23rd. Over the years, a rich legacy of godly men have led McGregor Baptist Church through significant growth, with the church voting its long-time executive pastor Russell Howard as its Lead Pastor in 2017. Under his leadership, MCC continues its tradition of growth, measured by hearts changed through its ministries and the cross of Jesus Christ.

About the Position:

The Student Minister of McGregor Baptist Church will develop and oversee a Student Ministry designed to accomplish the overarching mission of the church. This individual will in essence, be an equipper-in-chief who is innovative, winsome, attractive, and capable. They will possess exceedingly strong relational, discipleship, and development skills, so as to accomplish the ministry priorities of investing in students, encouraging their spiritual growth, and creating a leadership pipeline for the student ministry. The ideal candidate for this role will not only be proficient and experienced in the area of student ministry, but also have the leadership capacity to offer input to higher-level decisions that impact the future of church, while providing sound feedback for the potential of the student ministry, equally.

In a nutshell, the ideal candidate for this role will have the following strengths: (1) Leadership, (2) Communication, (3) Teamwork. As such, the scope of skills and experiences pertaining to this position will include the following, among others:

  • Demonstrates leadership in implementing the church's mission.
  • Maintains objectivity while keeping emotions under control and displays passion and optimism.
  • Connects well and can lead all types of distinct populations of students so as to communicate care. Groups include students from foster homes, homeschools, public schools, Christian schools, and children's homes, among others. Additionally, the student minister will need to connect well with students come from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, and some with disabilities and special needs.
  • Makes self visible and available to staff and ministry leaders.
  • Confronts difficult situations and seeks win/win solutions.
  • Immediately confers with manager and appropriate lay leadership when conflict or adverse situations arise.
  • Exhibits good listening and comprehension.
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities.
  • Gives and welcomes relevant feedback to improve performance.
  • Contributes to building a positive team spirit
  • Puts success of team above own interests.

The next Student Minister of McGregor Baptist Church will enter a staff culture that highly values collaboration. It is a closely knit and tenured staff, that is led by strong senior leaders who have preserved the familial nature of the staff team over the years. There is much freedom to envision and try new things, while grace is extended in moments of failure and mistakes in an effort to move forward.


An undergraduate degree is required, although a seminary degree would be highly preferred.

Theological alignment with McGregor Baptist Church is desired, while candidates who are aligned with a reformed theology would be most comfortable at McGregor.
