About the Location:

Steeped in a rich South Texas heritage and located in the South Texas tropics, Brownsville is a perfect two-nation location where one will find plenty of exciting adventures, many historical sites, a thriving community, and a bicultural ambience that’s representative of Mexico. As the seat of Cameron County, the city is rich in history and one of the fastest growing areas in the United States. Today, Brownsville is the largest city in the Rio Grande Valley with a population near greater than 175,000. With an assessed valuation of more than $5 billion, the city has nearly quadrupled its wealth in the past 15 years. Brownsville is proud of its past and annually hosts thousands of tourists who not only take in the history, but the climate and proximity to Mexico as well.

Brownsville is a business-friendly area clustered with small towns, agriculture, and commercial and manufacturing interests tied to Mexico and free trade status. It serves as a major trading center and ‘maquiladora’ or border zone manufacturing center for U.S. companies and an international seaport. The city has a large Hispanic population and a sizable Hispanic middle class. The intersection between the Hispanic and Anglo cultures adds interest to this region. The University of Texas at Brownsville, a consolidation of previous higher education institutions, has 11,500 students. The city also contains good K-12 schools with reasonable home prices. There are several cultural or recreational amenities outside of watersports and cross-border shopping, with the border culture coming alive with festivals and events throughout the year in Brownsville.
