Elementary Director for Children's Ministry

Job Description:

The Elementary Director at CrossWinds will be responsible for leading, guiding, directing, organizing and building relationships with kids, families and leaders in grades K-5th to lead a ministry that points kids to Christ through impactful relationships.

Essential Job Functions:

Large Group Worship Services

Lead out loud, high energy, FUN impactful, biblically relevant and challenging Large Group Worship services for kids Kindergarten thru 5th grade.


*Lead, schedule, coach and build relationships with our large group volunteer teams to provide an engaging worship experience each week.

*Provide- next level creative ideas to generate momentum that will excite kids and parents, wanting them to return with their friends.

*Ensure that all team members are equipped and empowered for successful ministry. This includes, consistent and regular communication, training, and rehearsals.

*Collaborate and with the Children’s Pastor and other teams to create and design engaging sets, games, worship and story-time experiences that will help kids understand biblical truths.


Small Groups & the Sunday experience

We believe that every kid and family that comes on our campus on Sunday morning deserves to have a great experience. We also believe that incredible things happen in groups. Kids build relationships with their leaders, other kids and most importantly God through engaging small groups.


*Set volunteer leaders up for success by having small group materials prepped and ready to go in advance.

*Work with weekday volunteers to plan and prepare Sunday materials so volunteer leaders can focus on being prepared and present with kids.

*Schedule, coach, develop and build relationships with small group leaders on a regular basis.

*Ensure that all classrooms and groups are staffed and prepared within ministry guidelines each Sunday.

*Work with the Children’s Pastor to evaluate and access small groups and the Sunday experience and its needs on a regular basis.

*Modify, adapt and make changes to groups and the Sunday experience as needed to provide a quality program and an excellent experience for kids and families.

Recruit, Train and Develop Volunteer Leaders

Connecting people to their gifts and passion in CrossWinds Kids is an on-going goal and priority. We are always on the look out for people who want to serve God by serving with kids.

*Create and implement regular training for volunteer leaders that support ministry values, goals and objectives.

*Work closely with the Children’s Pastor to successfully interview, screen and on-board new volunteers in Elementary ministry.

*Actively pursue relationship with people within the ministry and the church to match ministry needs to individual giftedness throughout the year.

*Work with the Children’s Pastor and Early Childhood Coordinator to plan, create and implement regular out-of-the-box recruiting campaigns to attract qualified individuals to volunteer needs in CrossWinds Kids.

*Regularly meet and build relationships with volunteer leaders within the Elementary Ministry to foster community, build relationship, and provide opportunities for leaders to grow throughout the year.


Invest in key relationships:

You may have gathered by now that we value relationships. We REALLY do. We believe that of all the relationships we have the ability to influence, two of the most important ones are the relationships we have with the people we work with AND the relationships we build with kids and their families.


*Champion and prioritize the spiritual development of kids (Kindergarten-5th grade).

*Be available, accessible and build intentional relationships with kids and their families on Sunday mornings.

*Regularly meet with families to offer encouragement, support, prayer and partnership.

*Work with the Children’s Pastor and Early Childhood Coordinator to create events for kids and their families that support the ministry mission and values.

*Create resources and opportunities within the Elementary ministry to build relationships with kids and their families.

*Meet regularly with the Children’s Pastor, Kids ministry staff and church staff to receive training and update appropriate parties on ministry needs, progress and challenges.

*Work to build relationships and foster collaboration across ministries as needed.

Qualifications we’re looking for in the ideal candidate for this role: ?

  • A strong understanding of the mental, physical and spiritual needs of Elementary aged children.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead, recruit, train and develop volunteer leaders.
  • An encouraging spirit and passion for growing and developing children and volunteer leaders.
  • Strong skills in multi-tasking, time management, and prioritizing daily and weekly responsibilities.?
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. 
  • Understand and comply with all church handbook rules. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • GED or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2yrs working with children required (Certificate or degree not required but helpful)
