Job Summary

The Pastor of Discipleship at Charity Church has the responsibility to ultimately create a healthy culture of Christian discipleship and ministry advancement.  To train and resource Discipleship ministry leaders, through a strategic, measurable process. To teach believers how to develop spiritually and how to discover their path of service based on their strengths and spiritual gifts.  To activate those disciples into their ministry functions in our local body and into our community. To build kingdom workers.  The core value to everything we do at Charity is LOVE!

Essential Functions:

  • Align and communicate vision for Discipleship Ministries and development of leaders with Lead and Executive Pastor
  • Demonstrate a strong ability to connect and create relationships
  • Create, develop and implement a strategic, intentional and measurable process and timeline for discipleship that creates a culture of active discipleship and service within our body.  One that creates connections one with another, ministry on-ramps, tracks for growth, and celebrates landmarks and milestones into leadership opportunities.  Champion “Attend one, Serve one”
  • Demonstrate an ability to recruit, train, equip, and release volunteer leaders
  • Develop, Plan, and organize leadership resourcing and training – training leaders to train others
  • Organize, oversee, and conduct mid-week Wednesday night small group classes that include biblical teaching, practical application, relational opportunities, small group connection points, and opportunities for ministry development and/or community outreach service.  Explore the opportunities for home-based groups as well
  • Purpose to and demonstrate an ability to help close the back door by assimilating the “fringe” attenders into the active body – helping them connect relationally with God and one another via active service
  • Responsible to track where people are on their discipleship/assimilation journey through measurable processes that can be documented and shared
  • Possess the ability to communicate spiritual truths both verbally and creatively
  • Attend “one on one” meetings with Sr. Staff and participate in weekly team staff meeting
  • Create and maintain approved Discipleship Ministries annual budget
  • Be available to preach/teach in main sanctuary as requested by Lead Pastor


Further Responsibilities:

  • Purpose to have our volunteers vibrantly and purposefully visible in our local communities, schools, organizations and involved in leadership roles within those organizations
  • Team Player – about 20% of your work time will be allocated to non job description specific areas.   As we cross boundaries for all church activities, crisis ministry, needed set-up, manual labor as needed – we work as a team to accomplish those items and/or projects
  • Establish accountability with local network of leaders
  • Continue being a student, furthering your personal education, goals, visions, be mentored and be a mentor

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Biblical and discipleship training/education
  • Proven experience in development of discipleship and assimilation systems and training

with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Discipleship/Associate pastor role – successfully leading over 150 active volunteers on a consistent basis

  • Believes in and is Biblically aligned with the core beliefs and values of Charity Church as expressed in our Constitution and By-laws and our Leaders code of conduct

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to speak confidently in a public forum to people of all ages
  • Physically able to engage in strenuous activities with our students, adults ie:  hikes, sports, missions trip to remote area, etc.  Also handle strenuous work environments that may include heavy lifting and other exertive tasks.  May require use of ladders, lifts, and stairs.  Able to move freely in and out of different settings (home, churches, businesses, ministry areas)
