We are a 174 year old multigenerational church located in Liberty, MO, a fast-growing suburb of Kansas City, MO.  We are located within walking distance of William Jewell College and the downtown Liberty square.  We are fortunate to have a well-developed and highly-regarded music and arts program with broad participation of children, youth and adults.  Our fine arts and music ministries include choral, instrumental, handbell, and keyboard music as well as opportunities for drama and liturgical dance.  

 

We are seeking an Associate Pastor of Worship and Music to build upon our rich history and present growth to lead us into being what God is calling us to be as a congregation. 

 

Position Overview:

 

The Associate Pastor of Worship and Music is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the church’s worship experiences and music ministries, including a variety of art forms.  When effective, this Pastor’s leadership will creatively engage both members and visitors in consistently meaningful worship experiences.  This Pastor’s effectiveness is critical to maintaining and improving overall church health and growth.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Implement the vision and mission of the church under the leadership of the Senior Pastor

  • Plan & implement weekly worship services that are engaging, interesting, high quality, diverse, meaningful and topical

  • Recruit, train and build dynamic worship/music and arts teams for all age groups (i.e. choir, orchestra, hand bells, drama, liturgical dance, etc.)

  • Lead regular worship/music rehearsals and leadership meetings

  • Prepare music and songs for the worship teams

  • Explore and utilize a wide variety of expressions of worship.  Encourage broad involvement of church members in worship

  • Assist in preparing annual plans and budget in accordance with overall vision for the church

  • Keep expenditures within budget as part of responsible stewardship

  • Attend and collaboratively participate in worship-planning meetings, staff meeting and retreats, as directed

  • Communicate effectively and engage with a wide variety of people with varied interests and backgrounds either one-on-one, in small groups or from the pulpit, creating an environment of inclusion

  • Seek counsel, input and support from all stakeholders (church members, musicians, choir, pastoral staff and the local community)

  • Perform other duties, as assigned, in a professional and collaborative manner

  • Church members will have ongoing opportunities to exercise their God-given talents through a variety of means in the music and arts programs

  • Worship experiences will be hospitable, warm and inclusive so that both members and visitors will feel welcomed and wanted

Qualifications:

  • Experience in creating and leading worship and music ministries

  • A graduate degree or equivalent in music

  • Successful experience in choral and instrumental leadership in a church type environment

  • Experience and commitment to work with volunteers

  • Proficiency in the use of current technology

  • Willingness to commit and adhere to the vision and core values of Second Baptist

  • Commitment to a team ministry with value and understanding of pastoral duties

  • Desire to be a multi-tasking team player with a positive attitude, high energy and strong interpersonal skills

Spiritual Expectations:

  • Be proficient, invested and committed to our ministry of equipping others

  • Live a life consistent with the commandments and teachings of Jesus Christ

  • Spend time in prayer and study of God’s Word on a regular basis

  • Be involved in personal discipleship, either small group or one-on-one

  • Stay current with ministry trends

  • Lead a life that seeks to help others to see how Christ can impact their lives

  • If married, spend adequate time with spouse and children each week

  • Maintain adequate physical and mental health for performing job functions
