Full Time Student Ministry Pastor

 

Objective:

To serve the Evangelical Free Church of Chico (EFCC) by providing overall leadership and vision for ministry to junior high school and senior high school students and their families in a way that expresses the vision and values of EFCC and encourages students to begin and deepen their relationships with Jesus Christ and His people.

 

EFCC is looking for a visionary, motivated individual who is called to champion the vision and values of EFCC within our local community. The ideal candidate will have a proven leadership track record, as this person will be instrumental in leading EFCC forward in ministering to our Junior and Senior High Students.

 

We are looking for a strong communicator with an obvious passion for Christ and a growing, deepening relationship with Him. A commitment to reaching the unchurched, as well as challenging students to grow in their relationship with Christ, is crucial. The primary focus of Student Ministry at EFCC is concentrated on discipleship and shepherding with a blend of activities and events and the emphasis being focused on the Word of God. The goal of the Student Ministry Pastor is to provide a safe Christian environment that encourages students to bring their friends, share ideas, build relationships and to develop a faithful Christian life.

 

Setting:

The City of Chico was founded in 1860 and has grown to over 33 square miles with a population of 88,634 in the incorporated area and a greater urbanized area population of approximately 100,000. Chico is located ninety miles north of Sacramento on Highway 99, in Butte County, east of Interstate 5.

  

One thing residents say they like about Chico is our four distinct seasons. While the summers are hot, the winters are relatively mild with 172 days of sun.  Chico has maintained a special sense of community and small-town living as it has developed into a vibrant regional center for business, recreation and cultural activities. It is home to Chico State University with about 18,000 students.  There are also many recreational opportunities in and around Chico. Bidwell Park one of the largest municipally owned parks in the nation (3,670 acres), and offers numerous trails for biking, hiking and equestrian use.

 

EFCC is served by a staff of 32 including a Lead Pastor, Worship Pastor, Discipleship and Family Life Pastor, Connections Pastor, Children's Ministry Pastor and a Senior Care Pastor. Additionally, there is a Women’s Ministry Director, child care staff and Office support staff. EFCC has approximately 650 in weekly attendance. There is a strong volunteer base and a focus on building strong families.  The campus of EFCC occupies 5 acres in the heart of Chico, nestled in a neighborhood near Bidwell Park. Our facilities are clean, modern and we have a beautifully renovated Worship Center, Children’s Ministry building, Fellowship Hall, and a gymnasium. We offer two services on Sunday mornings, a blended service and a contemporary service to minister to multi-generational attenders.

 

Ministry Qualifications:

  • BA or Masters (Bible school and/or seminary is a plus)

  • Must have a vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a student ministry, preferably in the context of a large church

  • Exceptional administrative, organizational and project management skills

  • Experienced with attracting volunteers and building teams

  • Gifted in leadership, evangelism and seeing people outside the faith come to know Christ

  • A person of integrity and devotion to Christ possessing godly character and a spirit of humility

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, conflict management and computer skills

  • Demonstrates maturity and balance of emotions

  • Has a passion for students and their families

  • Possesses a high level of relational intelligence

  • Knows how to empower others in leadership and delegate accordingly

  • Experience in creating environments that are relevant to outsiders

  • Fully committed to the vision, values, and ministries of EFCC

  • A team player who is protective of other staff and supportive of overall leadership decisions

 

Ministry Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and grow existing Sunday, mid-week classes and small groups

  • Be an advocate for students and educate the congregation about the concerns and needs of students and the community

  • Contact and follow-up with all students and their parents

  • Counsel with students and their parents as needed

  • Develop and implement all aspects of a balanced Student Ministry in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, missions and outreach

  • Engage students in community outreach projects

  • Cultivate a missional and missions mindset in students through cross-cultural outreach

  • Lead an annual missions trip

  • Identify, vet, recruit, train and equip a team of volunteers who work with students and share in leadership

  • Mentor students in developing their leadership skills

  • Be available to students in a variety of ways, i.e. lunch at school, attendance at extracurricular activities, visitation, times of crisis, family events, etc., to encourage students and their parents

  • Obtain and share resources to support and equip the parents of teens

  • Be aware of resources for developing the Student Ministry programming and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities

  • Work with Children’s Ministry Pastor in the bridging of 5 th graders to Junior High School

  • Coordinate and plan the Student Ministry curriculum

  • Networking with other area Student Directors/Pastors

  • Develop strategic long and short term ministry plans in accordance with the mission and values of EFCC; review and evaluate quarterly

  • Ensure adequate volunteer support and adult-to-student ratios

  • Ensure that the Child Protection Policy is observed in all Student Ministry settings

  • Encourage intergenerational mentoring and modeling for students from mature Christian adults and parents

  • Encourage students to serve in appropriate ministry areas such as VBS, AWANA, Sports Outreach events, etc.

  • Assure proper care of facilities used by students

  • Communicate promptly and as effectively as possible using all available resources to ensure communication with church staff, leadership, parents, students and the congregation as a whole

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Manage budget

  • Attend pastoral meetings

  • Attend staff meetings

  • Provide a weekly written report to the Senior Pastor

  • Attend church-wide events

  • Prepare and submit an annual summary report of the mission, goals, plans and successes in student ministry

  • Attend newcomer luncheons and congregational meetings

  • Assist with pulpit supply

  • Carrying out other assignments as directed by the Senior Pastor

  • Report directly to Senior Pastor

 

Compensation Package:

  • Starting salary from $47-50K, depending on education and experience
