Position Description

Position Title: Communications Director
Classification: Full time


Summary of position: In order for Hope Church to accomplish her mission of helping people follow Christ together, the Communications Director will manage multiple communication channels for accessibility and clarity in order to tell the story of Hope Church and monitor engagement.


Position Requirements:
      1. Spiritual qualities - possess a living testimony of a personal relationship with Jesus, maintain personal integrity, maintain regular spiritual practices, and ?affirm the Hope Evangelical Free Church statement of faith.
      2. Three years of employed experience with graphic design, basic video production, social media platforms and other digital media.
      3. Education related to Communications and/or Marketing strategies.
      4. Proficient with various computer programs relevant to print and digital communication.
      5. Character
           a. Able to demonstrate a professional demeanor in dealing with public; excellent interpersonal skills.
           b. Capable of managing periods of high workload and balancing multiple priorities.
           c. Must be able to work effectively and productively with diverse groups of people.
      6. Physical Demands
          a. Ability to lift 25 pounds.
          b. Ability to do repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
          c. Optical: Able to see with or without correction, print and digital images and text.
          d. Auditory: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.


      1. Draft, maintain and enforce communications strategy, channels and policies.
          a. Collaborate with Administrative staff for maintenance of church management software.
          b. Collaborate with Pastoral staff for effective use of channels.
          c. Post digital content to appropriate channels, including weekend services.
          d. Manage appropriate access for weekend service announcements.
          e. Help volunteers and ministry leaders identify and utilize channels appropriately.
          f. Monitor analytics and produce regular reports for measuring effectiveness of channels.
         g. Schedule lobby display areas for ministries.
     2. Build consistent brand identity for all Hope Church groups and ministries.
         a. Manage design and accessibility of branding files.
         b. Coordinate Official Website.
         c. Coordinate Official Social Media accounts.
         d. Coordinate Official Mobile App.
     3. Produce electronic and print materials for Church-wide projects.

         a. Weekend Service Slides.
         b. Weekly E-News.
         c. Seasonal Ministry Guides.
         d. ”Hope Forward” (Reports).
         e. Lobby displays.
         f. Property signs.
        g. Hallway messaging visuals.
     4. Recruit, train and coordinate communications volunteer team leaders.
        a. Produce and maintain collection of regular “natural video” for promotion and celebration.
        b. Produce and maintain collection of regular photos of events and ministries.
        c. Produce select video interviews as necessary and/or possible.
     5. Resource and support development of electronic and print materials for individual ministries.

This position reports to the Senior Pastor.

Hope Evangelical Free Church is a healthy, growing church on the west side of Springfield, Illinois seeking a strong manager with a diverse communications background to manage multiple communication channels.  Hope Church recently developed and launched a new website: and launched a church app available through both Apple and Android sources.  We desire to continue developing these channels as we establish a greater social media presence to tell stories of Hope.  The ideal candidate will understand the unique nature of church communications and have demonstrated the ability to work with a diverse team.  They will also have a history of being able to recruit, organize and coach volunteers for project achievement.


Position Title:  Communications Director              

Employee Classification:  Regular Full-Time (40 hours/week) Salaried

Salary: $45,000 - $60,000 (Includes benefit package)

Springfield, Illinois is the capital of the state of Illinois and it is the largest city in central Illinois. Springfield is an All-American Midwestern city located between Chicago and St. Louis. The population of Springfield is approximately 118,000 and it is comprised of a unique blend of both suburban and rural communities. The ethnicity of the town is primarily Caucasian at 76% with 18% African American, 2% Asian, 2% Hispanic, 2% mixed nationalities. Currently Hope Church averages around 1,000 in her weekend worship gatherings and anticipates steady growth for the foreseeable future.  Hope has a staff of 8 Full-Time Pastors and 8 Support Staff (3 Full-Time, 5 Part-Time).  The Communications Director will be a team member of the Support Staff.
