Grace Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Peoria, Illinois, has an average Sunday morning attendance of 1500 men, women, and children. Our church, with Dr. Bryan Chapell serving as our senior pastor, has served the Peoria community for 149 years. We have a vibrant staff that enjoys leading and serving the Lord together. Our Session and Diaconate are unified and faithful. Our intergenerational congregation aspires to a vision of “God’s unlimited Grace inspiring all generations and peoples to follow Christ in glorifying worship, gospel dependence, gracious humility, and global discipleship.” As our vision unfolds, we are placing particular focus on building strong ministries and outreach for children, youth, and young adults and families.


Position Overview


The Director of Children’s Ministry is a full-time position responsible for ministry to children from birth through sixth grade, and corresponding ministry activities that bless their families and community. This position, reporting to the Executive Pastor, oversees a ministry led by 300 volunteers serving 500 children in our Sunday morning and midweek programs.




  • Bachelor’s Degree and experience in children’s ministry
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire the confidence of volunteers and parents
  • Ability to manage a large team by vision-casting, recruiting, leadership development, delegating, inspiring, and training
  • Effective communication and organization skills
  • Expertise in using technology in children’s ministry




  • Provide an environment that is conducive to the making of disciples for life—for a lifetime and for all spheres of life
  • Ensure a safe, sanitary place for the spiritual nurture of children in the ages of infant through sixth grade
  • Develop energetic classes and clubs that the children are excited to attend and invite their friends to attend
  • Partner with other ministry teams and staff to strengthen children, parents, and families in the church, and to reach new people in the community
  • Maximize the use of curriculum and classroom time to grow the children spiritually with understanding of how the gospel of grace transforms their minds, hearts, and wills, while reaching them through all the senses, including musically, and using modern technological means when appropriate
  • Organize and oversee the entire children’s ministry volunteer team and budget for Sunday morning, midweek, and summer programs
