We are in a unique position and are looking for a special person to fill our needs. Our pastor has retired and we are now looking for a replacement. If you feel that you have the ability to lead a 165 year old United Church of Christ congregation and help
blend some of our traditional ways with some more progressive ideas, then you are the one we are looking for. We are looking to draw younger families to our church with more blended music, sermons that relate to everyday life and new ways to connect to our
surrounding communities. All of this while still maintaining some of our traditions that we hold dear to our hearts.
This full-time position will require a pastor who can give positive, uplifting sermons tied to modern day experiences and events. We like them to be clear, simple and spirit filled while incorporating joy and humor. This person may not be the best singer,
but leading the congregation in song will win over the hearts of many. The music we are looking for will be some traditional, but with the introduction of new, more progressive music. This person will be caring, compassionate, and a counselor who maintains
confidentiality. In the hope of drawing in many younger families, this person will work well with the youth and will have the ability to appeal to them with some new, fresh ideas. There will be many aspects that the pastor will have to be involved in:
*Make pastoral calls to those in hospitals, nursing homes and those who are confined to their homes.
*Participate in an interfaith Thanksgiving service by alternating locations with other churches involved.
*Attend the monthly Church Council meetings giving support/guidance as needed.
*Lead the Confirmation classes every year.
*Lead Adult Bible Study.
*Work with the following groups/committees:
- Shepherding Committee
- Altar Committee
- Cemetery Committee
- Dinner Committees
- Women’s Fellowship
- Mary and Martha’s Circle
- Men’s Group
- Ignite - Your Faith youth program
Our church was founded in 1852. Construction of our sanctuary began in 1862 and was completed in 1865 after the end of the Civil War. After numerous improvements over the years, it is where we still worship to this day. We have a beautiful Family Life Center
where we have a general office, a Pastor’s office, a choir room, 5 classrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a large hall with a stage. This modern facility could accommodate future growth of church worship. Currently we use this facility to hold our annual
Chicken and Dumpling Dinner, Picnic, and Sausage Supper, which help to financially support our church. The Ignite youth program, confirmation classes, VBS, children’s Christmas play and many other events are held in this building as well. The church, Family
Life Center and a newly renovated parsonage all sit on 40 beautiful acres.
We have approximately 160 members with an average of 40-50 members attending Sunday service weekly. We are a friendly, welcoming congregation that works well together.
We are looking for someone who is encouraging, will work together on shared goals, will face challenges together, and rejoice in the blessings of the Lord together. We are hoping to increase our membership, be more forward thinking and are looking for the
leadership and energy to help us achieve our goals.
