Job Description and Qualifications

Position Summary:

The Director of Children’s Ministry provides strategy, direction and oversight for the entire JCUMC Children’s ministry including nursery, Sunday Pre-school and grades 1-5. JCUMC offers full children’s programming on Sunday mornings, currently averaging more than 100 children. JCUMC’s Children’s Ministry also provides other on-going programs and special events that would fall under the Director of Children’s Ministry’s scope. The Director of Children’s Ministry provides leadership, training, support and oversight to all Children’s Ministry volunteer staff.

Personal Qualifications:

  • Solid UMC theology who feels a call by God into full-time children’s ministry
  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Early Childhood Education or Christian Education
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Children’s Ministry, as a church staff member or lay leader
  • Must have vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage, and implement a Children’s Ministry within the parameters of the United Methodist Church
  • Positive and energetic interface, with the ability to build, lead, and empower volunteer teams
  • Excellent organization, communication (verbal and written) and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
