Job Description:

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Student Ministry Pastor is the development and oversight of the Junior High and High School Student ministry at Journey Christian Church, with alignment to the overall vision and mission of the church to make growing disciples of Jesus. Primary responsibilities include leadership development, discipleship/ mentoring, programming, and administration.


Reports to: Associate Pastor

Accountable to: Lead Pastor Status: Full-time employee

Essential Role and Responsibilities Include:


High School and Junior High:

  • Primary concern is the holistic spiritual discipleship of students (and their families).

  • Model spirituality-based leadership which flows from personal intimacy with Christ.

  • Lead the coordination and facilitation of weekly HS and JH gatherings, camps, and

    special events (including budgeting, development, and advertisement) .

  • Primary teaching/preaching responsibilities with the development of leaders to do likewise.

  • Develop and sustain regular communication with parents.

  • Oversee Student Ministries Associate.

  • Recruit, train, and encourage volunteer leaders.

  • Cultivate Parental support and involvement in the student ministries.

  • Foster and encourage the growth of students through small group communities.

  • Integrate the Student Ministries into the overall body of the church through mutual service

    events, Sunday morning gatherings, and outreach opportunities.

  • Develop and oversee yearly missions opportunities for students/families.

  • Where possible, establish a presence on local high school and middle school campuses

    in order to support Journey students and reach others.

  • Develop and implement annual student ministries budget.


    Church Wide:

  • Be present at “all-church events” and corporate worship services

  • Serve as required to assist in other general ministerial responsibilities (such as weddings,

    funerals, visitation, and counseling).

  • Network with other student ministry pastors as a means of support and community building.

  • Actively continue student ministry training through seminars and conferences.

  • Willingness to assume any other responsibility assigned by the Lead or Associate Pastor.


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Meet monthly with Associate Pastor for assistance and assessment of the Student Ministries.

  • Meet weekly with the Student Ministry Associate to provide direction.

  • Participation in all Journey staff functions (Weekly meetings, retreats).

  • Establish and promote strong connection between student ministries and other Journey


  • Hold regular office hours with availability to meet with youth and/or parents on individual




    • Solid assurance of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
    • Agree with and support the statement of faith, vision, philosophy, and direction of Journey. 

    • Strong, growing walk with the Lord, evidenced by a deep love for Jesus and others.
    • An attitude of being faithful, available, and teachable.
    • Strong desire/calling to serve students.



    • Must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a related ministry field. • Minimum of 3 years of student ministry experience.
    • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Prefer working knowledge in necessary technology
