Job Description:


Opendoor is a non-denominational, Spirit-filled church located in the Winterville Township just outside of Greenville, NC; ideally located 1.5 hours from the state capital of Raleigh and the NC Coast. We gather weekly with three services with a desire to know God, find freedom, discover purpose and then, make a difference. We are a multigenerational ministry in a fast-paced growth pattern with a vision of impact across eastern NC. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about the life-changing message of Christ as it applies to children by imparting a Biblical worldview to our children and their families. Though programs are valuable vehicles of learning, we’re interested in the development of passionate worshipers, young and old.


Average Weekly Attendance: 1300-1500


Our next Children’s Pastor must:

  • Have an attested and growing relationship with Christ
  • Embrace the mission, values and vision of Opendoor Church
  • Exhibit abilities of leadership, training, support and oversight of children’s ministry
  • Be able to motivate and manage a Volunteer Team of 150+
  • Be easily adaptable to growth, change, innovation and creativity
  • Have a clear understanding of confidentiality, sensitivity and discretion
  • Have a healthy and motivating relationship with supervisors, coworkers and volunteers
  • Have a clear understanding of departmental budgeting, data and metric assessments


Essential Functions:

  • Provide Pastoral Care for Children and their families
  • Provide leadership, direction and training for all Children’s Ministry environments
  • Develop the vision, strategy and design for creative learning environments
  • Review, purchase, adapt and implement all curriculum
  • Recruit and empower healthy leaders and volunteers
  • Coordinate Sunday services, Summer Blast, special events and midweek services and/or childcare (birth-5th grade) for all services of the church
  • Enforce efficient and secure check in/out process for the entire department



  • Teachable, faithful and available
  • Effective communication skills with children and adults (written, verbal, interpersonal)
  • Engaging and compelling teaching techniques
  • Planning and organizational skills
  • Attested team building skills with emphasis on a sustainable volunteer culture
  • Healthy conflict resolution skills that understand accountability as well as grace
  • Manageable social media and website skills


Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Theologically compatible with Opendoor Church
  • Previous experience with administration of a large church children’s ministry
  • Preferably an educational background in Christian Ministries or Early Childhood Ed
  • Working knowledge of basic computer software (Excel, Word, Publisher, Planning Ctr)
  • Clear understanding of ministry ethics and professionalism
