Director of Worship in Grass Valley, CA, located in the beautiful Sierra Foothills about halfway between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. Calvary Bible Church has a history of more than 160 years and has a weekly attendance of about 400.


Calvary Bible Church is seeking the right person to join their ministry staff as the director of Worship. CBC has two Sunday services. The early service enjoys contemporary music worship and the later service offers more of a traditional style. The new Director of Worship should be proficient in the contemporary style and yet competent to lead or oversee a traditional style service.


Primary Responsibilities:

  •   Oversee all worship through music for Calvary Bible Church

  •   Plan biblically faithful and appropriate Sunday morning contemporary worship

  •   Lead the congregation and/or coordinate the leading of the congregation in worship though “Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.”

  •   Support and assist the Director of Traditional Worship

  •   Consult with the lead Pastor and staff for plans, themes, content, and desired outcomes for Sunday Service.

  •   Select, prepare, direct and otherwise assist musicians to provide God- honoring music an songs.

  •   Perform annual budget planning responsibilities under the guidance of the Lead Pastor and Church Administration.

  •   Develop a team of volunteer musicians competent to produce worshipful music and songs.

  •   Equip volunteers for their success in ministry, including spiritually mature youth who desire to help lead in contemporary worship music

  •   Direct and oversee the video and sound system; train and coordinate system operators for Sunday services and special events.

  •   Have a dedicated daily time before God for personal spiritual health and growth

  •   Maintain healthy, loving, godly relationships with immediate family.

  •   Be a good Steward of your physical health.



  •   Formal training in, or commensurate experience in leading contemporary worship music.

  •   A degree in music is desirable, but not required.

  •   An accomplished musician.

  •   Working knowledge of traditional music, able to lead or oversee this worship style.

  •   Seminary training is a plus, but not required.

  •   Positive spirit with a problem-solving disposition.

  •   A servant’s heart.

  •   Excellent communication skills.

  •   Ruled by God and His church, bears witness for Jesus Christ, and is guided by the Holy Spirit.
