Job Description:

About the Organization:

In 1972, The Chapel on the Campus was established in Baton Rouge by a group of people who were concerned for the spiritual needs of students on the LSU campus. Over the years, The Chapel not only succeeded, it thrived—growing beyond its own expectations in size and impact. Its success has been its commitment to its founding vision to share the Good News of Jesus on the campus, in the community through ministry, and around the world through missions.

The Chapel has changed from the early days when it had no building, no set place to meet and only one staff member, one thing has remained the same—The Chapel’s ongoing commitment to glorify God by introducing people to salvation through Jesus Christ and helping them develop into committed disciples who CELEBRATE, CONNECT and CONTRIBUTE. Under the capable leadership of Dr. Kevin McKee who became Senior Pastor in 2011, the church looks toward 2020 with renewed vision to pray, prepare people for ministry and plant churches. The Vision 2020 campaign will focus on specific objectives and goals as they seek to become a church of people who proclaim Jesus wherever he leads them.

The desired end of this position would be to increase the Senior Pastor’s actual time for the purpose of relationship, vision and ministry, yet decrease his actual time and involvement in the preparation and continuity of these responsibilities.

To provide leadership as Executive Pastor for The Chapel, the individual will be grounded in the authority and power of the Scriptures, and revealed under the power of God the Holy Spirit. He will meet the spiritual needs of the staff and the members of The Chapel through sound biblical teaching, encouragement, mentoring, discipline, nurturing, and protecting in accordance with the church’s ministry values and core values.

This role requires strong administrative giftedness, with a strong capability to offer strategic foresight to both operations and ministry leadership. The person chosen must demonstrate the characteristics of an ‘administrative strategist,’ with a focus on care, integrity, and a solid work ethic with a desire to impact the world through the local church.

The ideal candidate must be organized and assertive, with excellence in execution, and offer sound input for the successful growth in the areas of operations and ministries. He will be a leader-developer who champions the DNA/culture of The Chapel, and seamlessly aligns each goal and expectation of their role in conjunction with them.

An undergraduate degree from an accredited university is required, although a seminary degree would be preferred.

The successful candidate will have a track record that reveals sufficient experience on a senior leadership team, with at least 5-10 years within a medium to large church (or business) context that reveals skills necessary for this role. The candidate will have a history of exposure to, and proficiency in, supervising pastoral staff, as well as understanding, motivating, and supporting ministry leaders.

About the Location:

The Baton Rouge area, also known as the "Capital Area," is the middle ground of South Louisiana cultures, having a mix of Cajun and Creole Catholics and Baptists of the Florida Parishes and South Mississippi.

With a prime, central location—just an hour away from New Orleans and Lafayette—Baton Rouge is the perfect city to explore the eclectic culture of this amazing state. Nicknamed the ‘Red Stick,’ the city’s rich past as an ocean port, and center for antebellum commerce, add spice to the local character. There are many points of interest along the shady streets with their gracious old homes. The landscape is unique to the state, with lush wet forests of evergreen, live oak, and magnolia trees growing in the area. Especially to the West, lie areas of mixed agricultural use, sugar plantations, and marshland, with areas of woodland and pine forest to the North.

A colorful political history is deeply entwined in the culture of Baton Rouge; it can be found both in the storied past of local dealmakers, showcased at the Old Louisiana State Capitol, and in the political history that is being written now inside the art deco skyscraper that serves as the current capitol. As home to the main campus of Louisiana State University and several smaller colleges, the city buzzes with the energy of youth while holding fast to its traditions in Southern lifestyle and historic sites. LSU's home football games dominate the fall social calendar when fans perfect the art of tailgating and pack the immense Tiger Stadium. A revival is underway in the city center where attractions range from a riverfront casino to the USS Kidd floating museum to the ultra-contemporary Shaw Center for the Arts, which clusters an art museum, gallery spaces, theaters and restaurants in the heart of downtown.
