Job Description:

Calvary Bible Church is seeking to fill the position of Lead Pastor.   CBC is a conservative, evangelical church, located in Bakersfield, California.  We are non-denominational, with a rich heritage of ministry and missions, striving to be relevant across generations and within our culture, with the timeless message of God’s Word and, specifically, the gospel.  Below is a profile of this position and the man we believe God will call to CBC.  Interested candidates should send resume and cover letter to rob@gocbc.org, or:

1. Position: LEAD PASTOR

 

2. Main duties:

     A. Preaching Ministry

          i. primary and leading preacher in our 2 Sunday services

          ii. per the spiritual needs of CBC, in collaboration with elders and pastors

          iii. Biblical – Relevant – Applicable – Engaging

     B. Family Ministry: young adults (singles and married) to families with kids at home

          i. Loving and caring; teaching

          ii. Reaching out; expanding

          iii. “programming” and events

     C. Shepherd of the church

          i. serves on board of elders

          ii. leader on/of the staff (staff reporting duties to be determined, sensitive to maximize gifting but NOT overburden; can also evolve over time)

 

3. Personal profile (these not necessarily in concrete):

     A. Age: 30’s-40’s

     B. Family: married with children

     C. Education: Bible college or seminary degree

     D. Experience: min. 10 years relevant ministry experience

     E. Character qualities / skills (in no particular order):

          i. leads his family well; healthy “balance” of ministry and personal/family

          ii. loves people; can engage the generations; goes into the community

          iii. humble but confident; thoughtful and accepts criticism/accountability

          iv. positive/joyful attitude, and good sense of humor

          v. well-respected; high integrity

          vi. aligned with us theologically

          vii. gifted teacher (biblical, with emphasis on relevance and application)

          viii. strong thinker and communicator

          ix. strong servant-leadership qualities

          x. great team player with staff and leadership
