Bargain Basket Manager Job Description

The Bargain Basket Manager shall report to United Church’s Senior Minister and shall be employed in accordance with United Church’s Employee Manual. The Bargain Basket Manager shall be responsible for the day to day operation of United Church’s Bargain Basket thrift store on Marco Island, FL. It shall be the goal of the Bargain Basket Manager to meet the Bargain Basket’s ministry goals and mission sales goals established by United Church of Marco Island.

Salary: $47,000 (annually) + medical benefits for the employee only

Responsibilities

Store Culture

  • A person of faith and integrity, the Bargain Basket Manager shall embody personally the virtues of our faith tradition in all aspects of management: love, patience, kindness, inclusion, honesty, friendliness and joy. We expect that the embodiment of these virtues will permeate the store’s culture resulting in a Christian environment at the Bargain Basket that can be sensed by donors, customers, volunteers, and staff.

Volunteers

  • The Bargain Basket Manager shall be responsible for recruiting volunteers with a special emphasis on recruiting volunteers from United Church.

 

  • The Bargain Basket Manager shall be responsible for training volunteers in all areas of the store.

 

  • The Bargain Basket Manager shall be responsible for scheduling volunteers and will be responsible for the daily updating of a volunteer schedule both in the store and online.

 

  • The Bargain Basket Manager shall be responsible for updating training and process manuals so as to ensure that volunteers (seasoned or new) can function in all areas of the store at all times.

 

  • The Bargain Basket Manger shall be actively involved in volunteer-sponsored Bargain Basket ministry events including the annual fashion show, volunteer appreciation dinner, community parades, etc.

Retail Information Technology

  • The Bargain Basket Manager shall oversee and possess extensive working knowledge of the store’s cash register/credit card system. This oversight includes programming, troubleshooting, accessing reports, and when necessary, making improvements to the store’s cash register/credit card system.

 

  • The Bargain Basket Manager shall oversee the store’s security camera system and possess extensive working knowledge of the system.

 

  • The Bargain Basket Manager shall oversee the store’s internet access and backup access and shall possess extensive working knowledge of the store’s internet connections.

Inventory

  • The Bargain Basket Manager shall be responsible for creating and implementing a store-wide inventory tracking system so as to best manage inventory. This inventory system should be linked to the store’s retail technology.

 

  • The Bargain Basket Manager shall be responsible for all aspects of the store’s inventory management including sorting, stocking, storing, and purging (when necessary).

Pricing

  • The Bargain Basket Manager is responsible for fair pricing and for training volunteers and staff in the area of pricing so that pricing can happen in a systematic way 6 days a week.

Opening and Closing

  • The Bargain Basket Manager is responsible for the opening and closing of the store. On days when the Bargain Basket Manager cannot open or close the store, the Bargain Basket Manager shall schedule a staff or volunteer custodian of the store to open and/or close.

 

  • The Bargain Basket Manager is responsible for the accurately counting the cash drawer and accurately reconciling the deposit to the daily register financial report so as to provide United Church’s financial assistant with consistently correct daily reconciliations.

Store Layout and Maintenance

  • The Bargain Basket Manager is responsible for store display and merchandise layout.

 

  • In collaboration with United Church’s Building and Grounds Committee, the Bargain Basket Manager is responsible for reporting store maintenance issues, safety concerns, and ensuring that the store’s overall appearance/cleanliness is always excellent. 

 

Outreach Collaboration

  • The Bargain Basket Manager shall collaborate with the Bargain Basket’s Director of Retail Marketing by ensuring that sales and promotions are well-resourced and implemented.

 

  • The Bargain Basket Manager shall collaborate with the Bargain Basket’s Director of Retail Marketing in creating a work flow process that assists the Director in the area of online sales.

 

  • The Bargain Basket Manager shall collaborate with the Bargain Basket’s Director of Retail Marketing in creating a work flow process that assists the Director in the area of mission giving and all mission efforts.

Administrative

  • The Bargain Basket Manager shall lead weekly, Monday morning Operations Committee meetings with Bargain Basket staff and stakeholders.

 

  • The Bargain Basket Manager shall attend monthly Bargain Basket Committee meetings and shall share a brief report during these meetings. On behalf of the Bargain Basket Committee, the Bargain Basket Manager shall write a monthly newsletter article for the church newsletter.

 

  • Alongside the Senior Minister, the Bargain Basket Manager shall review Bargain Basket staff annually for the purpose of setting goals.

 

  • For the purpose of effective operation and business continuation, the Bargain Basket Manager shall continually update all store manuals on a timely basis (especially when changes are made).

Other

 

  • It may be necessary that the Bargain Basket Manager take on other duties as requested by the Senior Minister
