POSITION TITLE: Director of Music and Worship Arts*

LOCATION:  New York City (Manhattan), New York

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with Experience

The Director of Music and Worship Arts will play a key role in helping the church articulate how worship will serve as an important component of this vision.

  • Assist in maintaining the highest possible ministry standards and professional ethics in accordance with the goals, mission and purpose statements of the church
  • Support the leadership, contributing to the spirit of unity among the staff and congregation
  • Music Ministry Administration
    • Planning, preparing for and leading all worship services, unless otherwise directed
    • Preparing and maintaining an annual expense budget in cooperation with the church’s Finance Committee and Executive Administrator
    • Oversee, train and schedule performing organizations for church services and special events
    • Coordination of all professional and volunteer music ministry staff
    • Scheduling all instrumentalists and vocalists for worship services and special events, unless otherwise directed
    • Oversee maintenance schedules for all church musical instruments
  • Music Ministry Leadership
    • Select literature for, rehearse and conduct or oversee the choir
    • Maintain a library of choral and instrumental music
    • Organize and conduct or oversee vocal and instrumental ensembles to enhance the worship services and special events
    • Work cooperatively with members of the Communications/Technology staff and volunteers to provide excellence in sound, lighting and multimedia resources for worship
  • Worship Arts Administration and Leadership
    • Provide general oversight and coordination for all productions and events related to the arts including
    • This includes but is not limited to drama, concerts, workshops and seminars, and to encourage the use of creative arts in worship and Christian service
  • Assist in pastoral duties and functions as requested or assigned 



  • Master’s Degree highly preferred
  • Successful experience in a growing, healthy worship ministry
  • Spiritual gifts appropriate for this assignment including administration and serving
  • Must be a member in good standing of their current church
  • He/she shall pursue a personally maturing relationship with Christ, maintaining a healthy devotional life
  • Demonstrate a professional decorum
  • Must utilize administrative and creative skills
  • Highly skilled in musical performance
  • A demonstrated leader
  • He/she shall demonstrate a commitment to and involvement with the congregation
