Job Description:

Executive Pastor of Ministries – Wayne, Pennsylvania

Church of the Saviour is a non-denominational Christ-centered church of approximately 1,500 people in the Philadelphia suburb of Wayne, Pennsylvania. The Executive Pastor of Ministries is responsible for ensuring the alignment to the discipleship process in all ministries and adult classes/groups. This position also provides leadership and direction to ministry and volunteer staff in the accomplishment of the church’s mission, culture, and strategic initiatives. The position will work with the senior pastor and his direct reports to ensure that our staff and leadership teams are serving God’s Kingdom effectively. As a strong people leader, The Executive Pastor of Ministries will work with his teams to set and execute ministry strategy and administer well in a complex environment. The Executive Pastor of Ministries will also possess the ability to speak both biblically and inspirationally, when needed.


The position will report directly to the Sr. Pastor and is a new role for COS and is expected to require 45-55 hours per week, and will include, but is not limited to, the following essential job functions:


Primary Responsibilities


  • Ensures alignment to the Discipleship process (Love God, Love Others, Get Equipped and Serve the World) in all ministries:

- Adults: Young Adults, Men, Women, Singles and Care and adult classes and groups

- Families/Youth: Children, Youth, Marriage and Parenting

- Adult classes and group

- Missions

- Shepherding

  • Leads relevant pastors, ministry staff and volunteer leaders of small groups/classes, including but not limited to: supporting them in prayer and counsel, providing strategic direction, aligning goal-setting and planning processes and evaluating effectiveness towards desired outcomes. Direct reports, many of which lead their own staff, include:
  • Pastor of Global Outreach
  • Pastor of Shepherding
  • Young Adults Pastor
  • Director of Men’s Ministry (volunteer position)
  • Director of Women’s Ministries
  • Family Pastor (to be filled)
  • Singles (volunteer positions)
  • Care Manager
  • Provides strategic oversight to adult classes and groups (e.g., Sunday Classes, Community Groups, Small Groups, Journey Groups), including but not limited to:
  • Recruits, develops, supports, trains & equips current and future lay leaders
  • Establishes sound theological teaching/curriculum
  • Ensures strategic alignment with COS’ vision, mission and values
  • Shepherds groups and leaders through prayer and counsel
  • Commits to the vision of COS and supports the senior pastor by being creatively and regularly involved in its development and execution (e.g., weekly leadership meetings, annual strategic planning)
  • Partners with other senior leaders and the elder team to create a humble, team–based environment committed to excellence which brings glory to God
  • Serves as intentional agent of unity across all staff, ministries, and functions to best complete Church of the Saviour’s mission statement.
  • In concert with the Sr. Pastor & Executive Director develops annual financial plans that fund the accomplishment of the strategic plan and meet critical financial objectives such as established cash reserve levels.
  • Develops and implements a more structured and inviting path for new attendees
  • Participates in public ministry (e.g., weddings, funerals, preaching)
  • Performs other duties as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate standards for the accomplishment of ministry in a way that honors both God and people.

  • A heart for God that is evidenced by proven character and a spiritual-mindedness that understands that “apart from Christ we can do nothing.”
  • An initiator, innovator and implementer of a discipleship pathway where all ages are equipped to make disciples. He will have a passion to equip and see others using their spiritual gifts.
  • A ‘ministry strategist,’ progress and results oriented, and capable of turning ideas into action. A successful candidate must also understand group dynamics and ensure effective consensus building and decision-making. His heart will be for the whole church not just his area of ministry.
  • Alongside strong administrative giftedness, it is imperative the candidate has the ability to think biblically, creatively, and critically to effectively support the church and staff.
  • Values authentic life-on-life discipleship rather than merely running a discipleship program.
  • Ability to evaluate studies and curriculum theologically.
  • A shepherd’s temperament, with a servant-leader/mentor attitude and inclination.
  • An inspiring leader of leaders who fosters a calm, up-lifting and productive environment while being an example of personal initiative, diligence and follow-through
  • A willingness to grow and adapt to the inevitable changes found in a growing local church.
  • Possesses and routinely demonstrates high emotional intelligence demonstrated by the following:

  • A minimum 8-10 years of experience as a leader of leaders and manager in a large church
  • M.Div. or Th.M. from an accredited Evangelical seminary
  • Ordained – meets the requirements of an elder and commits to follow the example of a biblical shepherd as set forth in 1 Pet. 5, 1 Tim. 3, and Titus 1, displaying deep Christian character and integrity of heart
  • A personal and maturing relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ
  • Demonstrated success leading others, particularly other leaders, to advance the Kingdom
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate persuasively and compassionately, both orally and in writing
  • Agreement with all aspects of Church of the Saviour’s Statement of Faith
  • An ability and readiness to be a member of Church of the Saviour
  • Passion for ethnic/racial diversity, particularly for internationals, preferred
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment, preferred
