Church of the Nativity is a movement of growing disciples of Jesus Christ, committed to loving God, loving others, and making disciples. While Orthodox in its Roman Catholic faith, the church seeks to serve its surrounding community by bringing the unchurched to Christ. The church is affiliated with The Archdiocese of Baltimore, and marked by relevance, growth, and strength in each area from its leadership to ministry programming.

Over the past few years, Nativity has implemented successful strategies for intentional growth. The church has been called to share their story and strategy with other churches who are interested in rebuilding. They strive to accomplish this through the ‘Rebuilt’ movement, which includes expanding their expertise through writing books, forming an association of parishes, making speaking engagements, and broadcasting podcasts, while hosting other events. With its current facility filled to capacity, Church of the Nativity is also currently in the midst of a ‘Vision Campaign’, for the purpose of building a new sanctuary so they may expand seating availability and offer services at optimal times for visitors and guests to be warmly welcomed and to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Today, with 4,000 in average weekly attendance, Nativity offers its worshippers an extremely unique worship experience that has reaped its benefits from a decade-long process of thoughtful reform by the church’s leadership to modernize its practices and engage the community in a way that would attract new members. Its ultimate desire is to honor the Catholic faith tradition by authentically and creatively presenting it to the community of North Baltimore, particularly to those who have become disconnected to the Church.

The ideal candidate for the Director of Student Ministries will focus their responsibilities in stewarding the Jr. High, High School, and Young Adult ministries at The Church of the Nativity. This individual will champion, meet, and exceed all goals set upon the mission, values, and foundations of the ministry, while ensuring that the ministry functions in seamless alignment with the overall vision of Nativity. This individual will posses a solid understanding of Roman Catholic theology, with a strong gifting in communicating it in a culturally relevant and understandable manner to the student body.

At least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, or a seminary degree with a firm understanding of the Roman Catholic denomination and theology is required for this position. The ideal candidate will have an unrelenting passion for students, and ministry to the current/emerging generation. They will be equipped to lead in both evangelistic and discipleship realms among both churched and unchurched students. The Director of Student Ministries will evidence marks of an adaptable, growth-oriented, and committed leader with an eye for excellence in all areas of responsibility and oversight.

Success in this role will be determined by:

  • Growth reflected through an increased number of students attending ministry programs.
  • Students actively engaged in local, regional, and global mission/ministry work.
  • A well-developed, task oriented volunteer base in the ministry, who passionately and authentically relate to the student demographic at Nativity.
  • Increased number of activities that engage connectivity across the students in the community.
  • Developed community and unification within the student confirmation program.
  • A trusting, authentic, and approachable rapport built with church leadership, students, parents, and congregation.
