Carmel Baptist was founded in 1965, when a group gathered at Providence Baptist Church to talk about starting a new church in southeast Charlotte. From 1965 to 1997, the church met at facilities on Carmel Road until they outgrew the space and relocated five miles south to a 30-acre property on state highway 51. Carmel Baptist’s ministries over the decades have reached out into the community, including its WEE School (Weekday Early Education School) preschool that serves almost 800 children, Carmel Christian School (K-12) with an enrollment of over 900 students, a counseling center, and multiple ministries that serve the “least of these” in the community.

Today, Carmel continues to grow and serve with three Sunday morning worship services, multi-lingual services, and a spectrum of ministries designed to help people become followers of Christ in learning and living. Looking forward, the church will focus on adding to its record of new church plants, while forging partnerships with churches in the Charlotte region. Carmel recognizes the synergy when churches work together to advance His Kingdom.

The position of Preschool Minister/WEE School Head of School at Carmel Baptist Church will ensure the effective and successful implementation, management, and sustainability of the spiritual climate, holistic development, business operations, curriculum strategies, staff development, and program execution of both the Preschool Ministry and Weekday Early Education School (WEE School) at Carmel Baptist Church.

This individual will first and foremost be a servant leader, an empowerer, a delegator, and a driver that propels forth the vision, mission, and future goals of the school. He/she will bear the essential strengths of shepherding, leading, and speaking, with proficiency in curriculum development (scope & sequence), as well as a firm understanding of trends in the field of early childhood and Christian education.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a dynamic change agent, with at least 5 years of consecutive experience in leading a team of 100+ employees in a ministry setting with underlying responsibility to the educational ministries of a church (or Christian organization). They will characterize micro-managerial attributes, alongside an extroverted confidence and authenticity that communicates to students, parents, and staff.

A bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Christian Education, or a similar field is required to effectively execute this dual positional responsibility. Success in these positions will be determined by:

  • Increased unity within the school community.
  • Sustained and strengthened unification between the church and the school.
  • Expanded drive and momentum surrounding the vision, mission, and goals of the institution.
  • Have added significant value to the staff, students, parents, and church leadership.
  • Application of strong, and humble leadership to the institution.
  • Created buy-in among parents and community.
  • Evidence of strong communication system built between staff and parents.

Nestled between Charlotte and Monroe, the area now known as Matthews was unspoiled rolling woodlands with large stands of trees and rich land that attracted early settlers in the 1800’s. Upon experiencing much growth and development over many years, today, the population of the city has grown to over 30,000 citizens. Keeping pace with development in the area, Matthews's city limits now encompass 17 square miles. There are hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, recreational facilities and a hospital. In 1996, the National Register of Historic Places listed 10 downtown buildings in Matthews. Known as Matthews Commercial District, they comprise a small, but remarkably intact, collection of structures dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century.

Matthews is a part of the greater Charlotte metroplex, where one will discover a lot. Captivating, colorful, and cosmopolitan, Charlotte is full of character, which offers its residents the perfect mix of country charm, city life, and a suburban utopia. Largely a conservative Christian environment, the church is located in an affluent region of town, where upper middle class residents of Caucasian, Asian, and Indian descent live.

Charlotte is a leading advocate in real estate infrastructure, energy/power resources, public policy, and diversity inclusion. Its thriving education system, arts community, science council, and professional sport affiliations complement the recreation that’s ideal for a weekend getaway or a weeklong holiday with abounding opportunities for walking on the beach, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, skiing, camping, and hiking. The fine weather of the state creates four distinct seasons with balanced summers, ideal winters, and pleasant spring/fall climate in between. Acres of parks and miles of greenways add to the beauty and relaxation to suburban living.
