Beginning over 100 years ago as First Baptist Church Smyrna, LifePoint is a dynamic, growing church that has a heart for its local communities, the nations, and the world. LifePoint is a multi-site congregation, with one church meeting in multiple locations and campuses both locally and globally, and is associated with the Southern Baptist Convention.

Although the church has a long and significant history, LifePoint continues to adapt and change to the needs of families, communities and the world, so that all can know the joy of a Christ-centered life. Pat Hood came to the church 22 years ago as the student pastor, and has been the Senior Pastor since the late 90’s. The church has seen transformational change since then, moving from traditional to cutting-edge contemporary, growing from 500 to more than 3,000, relocating, expanding sites, and growing into an outward focused church where every member lives “sent.”

LifePoint is a healthy church with a passion for people on mission and raising up a new generation of disciples. Although they’ve seen tremendous growth over recent years, they are not content to coast. They are looking to add some high-impact players to their lead team to partner together for the next chapter of ministry.

The Discipleship Pastor will champion LifePoint’s mission of pointing people to a Christ-centered life, by establishing a well-articulated philosophy for making disciples across all campuses. This role includes oversight of the small group ministry, but goes beyond the existing model of community groups. It might include some adult education classes, but goes beyond classroom education. In essence, this individual will be an initiator, innovator and implementer of a discipleship pathway where men, women and students are equipped to make disciples, who in turn are equipped to make disciples.

An undergraduate degree is required for this position. A seminary degree is preferred, although consideration given alternative theological grounding. The ideal candidate will have successfully demonstrated several years of development and oversight in a full-time church leadership role. This scope of experience will speak to his ability to work in a multi-faceted ministry setting in a large-church environment. He has a passion for disciple-making, and has a proven capacity to build and grow ministry areas.

The original campus and the Stewarts Creek campus of LifePoint Church are both located in Smyrna. It is the 15th largest community in the State of Tennessee, and a medium-sized town located in the greater Murfreesboro-Nashville metro region. It is a town with a blended workforce, consisting of both blue-collar and white-collar professionals. Of particular interest, is that Smyrna has more people who work in areas related to computers and math than 95% of the places in the US. Smyrna is a very ethnically diverse town, and the people who call Smyrna home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups.

Another of the LifePoint campuses is located in the Murfreesboro area. Its dedication to creating ‘a better quality of life’ landed the city on the Top 100 Places to Live in Money Magazine. A fast-growing major city in one of the fastest growing regions in the nation, Murfreesboro is a vibrant place with an expanding job base and a low cost of living.

All three of these campuses are located a short 30-minute drive from Nashville, which is commonly referred to as ‘Music City’. With the proximity to Nashville, residents are close to the cultural, entertainment and educational opportunities offered in a large city, including professional and big time collegiate sports. The middle Tennessee area is known for its parks, lakes, and rolling hills that satisfy the needs of any outdoor enthusiast and contribute to an overall environment in which it is fun and rewarding to live, work and play.
