Director of Communications


Advent United Methodist Church is a vibrant, growing church in the Five Forks area of Greenville, SC which is committed to the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. 


Position Summary


The Director of Communications should be someone with a passion for our mission (see above).  This person is responsible for creating and managing effective communications and public relations within the congregation and throughout the community to advance the ministries and reach of Advent UMC.  The Director of Communications is also responsible for ensuring that effective branding and communications strategies and tactics are in place to promote the church and its mission, and engage its people in Advent ministries. 


Position Responsibilities


  • In conjunction with the pastors, develop and implement an overall communication strategy for the church including creating all digital and print communication (worship bulletins, postcards, brochures, posters, website, social media, e-newsletters, etc.)
  • Collaborate with staff team to understand vision and planning and then produce communications and graphics content for all ministry areas
  • Grow and manage Advent’s social media presence and impact
  • Remain current with innovations in church communications
  • Manage, update, and ensure the efficiency and attractiveness of the church website
  • Create graphic content for sermon series (social media banners, postcards, sermon slides, etc.)
  • Engage graphic artists within the congregation and encourage them to occasionally serve using their gifts for graphic design
  • Perform any duties specifically requested by the pastors


Essential Skills and Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, marketing, communications, or related field
  • Detail oriented with strong written language and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Graphics design skills
  • Team-oriented
  • Proficient in Adobe Suite programs, Microsoft Word
  • Experience with video editing software is preferred
  • One to two years of experience in a similar role is preferred
