Statement of Purpose
Under the direction of the Pastor and the Council, the Director position coordinates a comprehensive and expanding ministry for children, youth and families that embodies our faith and lives out our calling to be a church for people of all generations.

Accountability
The Director of Children and Youth Ministries shall reports to the Pastor who reports to the Prince of Glory Council.

Roles and Responsibilities
The Director of Children and Youth and Ministries shall is a newly created position within the church ministry team. The Director will interface and coordinate with all staff and volunteers to accomplish the ministry of the church:

1.Have A clear understanding of faith in Jesus Christ and a call to this ministry position
2.Understand and enthusiastically support the identity of Prince of Glory Lutheran Church
3. Continue to grow in your faith through study and prayer

The Director is expected to bring enthusiasm and dedication, working directly with people of all ages, but especially committed to the long term development and growth of the Family Ministry, working with ministry partners in the following areas:

Children’s Ministry
Supervise the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School programs
a. Annually evaluate the above programs and their curricula
b. Recruit, train and supervise coordinators of the above programs and provide all necessary tools for implementation
Be aware of and encourage members and their children to attend programming
Coordinate special programs and offerings to further engage the children, youth and families of Prince of Glory
Research larger events and discern church participation and promote and coordinate selected events
Develop events, programs and gatherings to which families with children can bring friends who may be seeking a church family.
Model and demonstrate how to share the Gospel with others
Develop relationships with other ministries in the community to further our missional footprint in the metro Detroit area

Youth Ministry (6th–12th grade)
Develop a creative program for the Junior and Senior High youth
Supervise a Senior High program and weekly Sunday School
Annually evaluate the above programs and their curricula
Recruit, train and supervise volunteer coordinators for the above programs and provide any necessary materials for implementation of such programs
Recruit, train and supervise leaders for all youth activities
Research larger events and discern church participation and promote and coordinate selected events
Motivate and demonstrate how to share the Gospel with others
Develop relationships with other ministries in the community to further our missional footprint in the metro Detroit area

Communication
Facilitate communication between teachers, staff, volunteers and Pastor
Via the church newsletter, bulletin boards and online social media accounts, keep the congregation informed about current and upcoming Children, Youth and Family programs and events
Solicit and collect comments, requests and ideas from the congregation about ongoing programs and program ideas for the future; discuss these with Pastor, the staff and Council
Promote events to the general public.

Hours
This is a part-time position (approximately 30 hours per week, depending on responsibilities)
Hours may include Sunday mornings for Sunday School and worship, midweek for after-school and evening children/youth programs, and occasional attendance at children/youth activities in the community.
As a member of the POG church staff, the Director will attend staff meetings and committee meetings as scheduled, responding to the requests of the staff and church in areas of responsibility.

Desired Attributes
Minimum 3-5 years experience working with children, youth and family services/ministries
Associate Degree or comparable experience is favored
Must have a strong knowledge of using a PC, Microsoft Office and all forms of social media to be used with the ministry (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms).
Must possess a commitment to Jesus Christ, the church local and the church universal
Must possess a strong faith and active prayer life
Required passion and/or sense of call to the Children and Youth Ministry of the church
Possess the ability to build strong relationships with others
Have good oral and written communication skills
Have good time-management skills and be self-disciplined
Be willing to serve a congregation that is economically diverse and has a variety of situations, settings, beliefs and needs that need to be met
Be genuinely willing to honor persons of various ages, backgrounds, economic statuses, physical abilities and faith perspectives
Have a strong work ethic
Have persistence, creativity, flexibility and adaptability and be forward thinking
