TITLE: Director of Student Ministries
REPORTS TO: Pastor of Family Ministries
At BCC, the Director of Student Ministries is responsible for developing and directing a vital youth ministry that moves students toward maturity in Christ through evangelism and discipleship. Therefore, the Director of Student Ministries is someone who enjoys
being around young people, is teachable, is able to shepherd others, and who has a vision and passion for seeing students inspired and equipped to develop an authentic faith of their own.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Organize Sunday morning and midweek ministries for high school and middle school students. Towards this end, this individual will prayerfully design spiritual transformation environments that contain ingredients like worship music, Bible exposition, small
groups, prayer, testimonies, games, and kingdom-building projects.
Shepherd students and families. The Director of Student Ministries needs to be a compassionate shepherd who tends to the spiritual wellbeing of students and families by teaching them God’s Word, providing encouragement and accountability, and sharing his
or her own life with them.
Organize and plan student ministry budgets and calendar.
Prepare and select appropriate Bible studies and curricula.
Oversee the recruitment and development of a core team of volunteer leaders and student leaders.
Provide care and counsel to students and parents, particularly during times of crisis.
Work with the Family Ministries team to inspire, equip, and partner with parents in their roles as primary spiritual trainers at home.
Collaborate with the church’s Children’s Ministry in order to develop and manage an effective transition for students into Student Ministries.
Be involved in staff meetings, activities, and staff responsibilities that support the overall church body and/or Los Altos Christian Schools.
Other duties as assigned.
First and foremost, the Director of Student Ministries must be a born-again believer and follower of Jesus as described in John 1:12-13, Romans 10:9, and 1 Peter 1:18-23. Moreover, he or she must be committed to a growing relationship with Jesus Christ as
Lord through the knowledge and study of His Word; to fellowship with the church body and to accountable discipleship with ministry leaders; to a lifestyle of biblical purity and integrity; and to an ongoing ministry of prayer to root the people and the ministry
in the plan and purposes of God.
4-year degree and/or seminary preferred
Minimum of 3 years experience preferred
Must like and have a calling to work with students and families
Must be a positive role model who can support the mission, vision, and core values of the church and the school
Committed to reach unchurched students and families
Must be able to minister effectively in a multicultural setting
Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively
A surrendered and teachable heart
Ability to work cooperatively with pastors, directors, staff, ministry leaders, and others in the body, as well as people in the community
