Job Description:


First Baptist Church of Anacortes is a growing church located in beautiful Anacortes, Washington.  We are seeking an experienced church music ministry leader to be our full-time Worship and Music Pastor.  This individual will take our church to the next level in worship.  We average approximately 250 in attendance in our two multi-generational Sunday morning services.  We currently have both a traditional and contemporary worship service.  



Under the direction of the Senior Pastor, the primary purpose of FBC’s Worship and Music Pastor is to develop a worship ministry capable of providing inspiring and engaging worship services that

encourage the body to enter into corporate and personal worship to the glory of God.  This individual

will creatively lead the congregation in worship utilizing new, current and traditional music.


Position Summary:

The Worship and Music Pastor will be anointed and gifted by God to lead First Baptist Church of Anacortes to a new level in spirit and truth-led worship (John 4).  The Worship and Music Pastor will be used of God to encourage the entire family of faith at FBC in a lifestyle of worship. The Worship  and Music Pastor will facilitate worship services that are best described as encounters with God.  The Worship  and Music Pastor will work in conjunction with the Senior Pastor to implement the mission of FBC which is to make followers of Jesus Christ. 


Under direct oversight from the Senior Pastor, while working with the music teams, the Worship and Music Pastor will:

  • Create an inviting, worshipful atmosphere, where people can encounter God.
  • Actively be involved in mentoring and shaping the next generation in worship.
  • Lead and direct the worship at the Traditional and Contemporary Sunday services and special services utilizing the FBC worship teams.  Responsible for scheduling and rehearsals.
  • Recruit, train and supervise volunteers in the areas of music, worship, technical art such as sound, audio/visual, including digital media.
  • Working with the Associate Pastor in charge of Youth Ministry, oversee dynamic childrens’/youth 
  • ministry worship programs.
  • Develop, manage and operate within a yearly department budget.
  • Develop and oversee special events throughout the year, including but not limited to the musical portions of VBS and community outreaches.
  • Attend weekly staff meeting for Bible devotions, prayer, planning, direction and support.
  • Manage equipment, instruments and music, including copyrights and a music library.
  • Perform additional ministerial tasks as assigned by the Senior Pastor as needed.


  • A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a vital, growing personal relationship with Him.
  • Has experienced a call into the Gospel ministry and can speak about the calling (Matthew 4:19).
  • Commitment to the FBC mission which is to “Make Followers of Jesus Christ.”
  • A willingness to demonstrate the character of an elder as described in 1Titus 3:2-4 and 1Peter
  • 5:2-3.
  • A willingness to be a servant leader (Matthew 20:25-28).  Has experience in leading and training volunteers.  Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills, ability to work well with all generations. 
  • A willingness to be a team player as described in 1Corinthians 12:12-28
  • An unbridled passion to lead God’s people in worship.
  • Commitment to moral purity.
  • A track-record of excellence working in worship ministry.
  • Skilled in choral, vocal, and instrumental direction.  Ability to incorporate other art forms as needed.
  • Has a heart for the spiritual formation of those in the congregation and the worship ministry.
  • Skilled in the use of technology in worship and in the use of sound, lighting, computers,
  • video projection and digital media.  Ability to train others in these areas.
  • A Bachelors Degree in music, worship, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum three-five years experience is preferred.
  • May at times be required to lift/carry musical equipment up to 25 pounds.
