Ward Church was founded nearly 60 years ago and has roots as far back as 1842. In 1956, the church became known as Ward Church, and in the next three decades they experienced explosive growth, becoming a ‘mega church’ before the term ever existed. Ward Church has experienced much progress over the years, and in 1980, played a pivotal role in founding the family of churches under the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC), with which it remains affiliated today.

Ward has always strived to be an authentic community of Christ-followers who love God passionately, serve others joyfully, and share their faith with people across the street and around the world. It has a long-standing reputation of impact in the inner city, and are currently investing more than $1 million to help renew one of Detroit’s most under-resourced neighborhoods. Ward Church is, by all accounts, poised to enter into a new season of growth as they continue to speak hope and life to each generation.

The Director of Next Generation Students will be a proven leader who can help shape and paint a picture of a ministry that helps students form a life-long faith. But beyond seeing and casting vision, he or she is also able to lead the staff and volunteers to accomplish more and take steps toward that vision. They can effectively communicate biblical truth with relevance and authenticity, and the student ministry that develops under their leadership is exciting and buzz-worthy. Success in a sentence: Ward students want to be involved, they invite their friends, and upon graduation they stay connected to the body of Christ. The successful prospect for this position will possess a bachelor’s degree, alongside 3+ years of local church or para-church experience, with a track record of growth, particularly in student ministries.

The ideal candidate, through empowering and building into amazing staff and volunteer leaders, will accomplish the following within the first two years:

  • More students are attending, inviting, and volunteering.
  • Students understand the place for the Bible in their lives.
  • An integrated ministry has emerged, where the students understand and embrace their connection to the overall church.
  • Seamless transitions from children’s ministry to middle school, and then to high school, are intentional and visible.
  • Students continue to have a heart for serving the church and serving the under-resourced.

Ward Church is located at the intersection of four very unique communities. Northville is a lively city with a 149-year old history, that offers beautiful neighborhoods, a vibrant business district, first-rate schools and city services, historic buildings and settings, and plenty of parks and trails for relaxing, enjoying nature, and staying active. The City of Plymouth is located is just to the South and West of Ward Church. Boasting many advantages such as location, access to major freeways, world-class industrial parks, and high quality housing, Plymouth is a thriving community abounding with attractive lifestyle options. To the Northeast of the church, is Farmington Hills. Pleasant neighborhoods, a graceful historic district, and many downtown-shopping opportunities significantly identify this charming Township that represents one of the largest and most educated workforces in the nation and the state of Michigan. Lastly, to the Southeast is Livonia, a safe and well-planned community where most of the staff of Ward Church live. Driven by the motto ‘Families First,’ Livonia has maintained its friendly, hometown atmosphere while sustaining a strong emphasis on public safety and services, superior education, and a strong industrial sector, with low cost of living averages. It has earned many accolades including, ‘2nd Safest City in Michigan,’ ‘2nd Least Economically Stressful City,’ and ‘10th Happiest Mid-Sized City.’
