Wear Love Pastor star

EastLake Tri-Cities Community Church

Richland, Washington, United States

Date Posted:
Associate Pastor - Discipleship Pastor - Teaching Pastor
Church Size:
251 to 350
Job Type:
EastLake Tri-Cities Community Church
Job Description:

Primary responsibility:

To create and develop systems that will enable us to WEAR LOVE in our local and global community by:

- giving ourselves away through volunteering
- being in intentional community with one another
- helping us be generous to organizations making a difference locally & globally

Here’s why we need this:

Every church, like every organization, has an area of productivity that deserves more attention than it gets, but loses out to more pressing matters. Sometimes what gets put on the back burner is actually MORE important than what we invest our time into, which doesn’t make much sense - but our human nature causes us to drift towards that which is easy, that which we are more naturally gifted. These self-inflicted limitations eventually catch up with us and inhibit growth and/or cause us to go backwards. Ask any church if small groups, volunteering, and partnering with outside charities is important and the answer will most assuredly be resoundingly positive. Ask those same churches what kind of resources they direct towards completing those objectives and the answer is often times depressing.

In our setting, EastLake has always believed in the value of these three objectives and, to a limited extent, has had mild success implementing them in the life of our church community. Community groups have always been present at some level, on any given weekend we’ll have a strong showing of volunteers making our weekend services happen, and we’ve always been committed to financially supporting organizations we believe are making a difference.

But we’re looking for excellence in these areas. We’ll create the platform and provide resources, but we want someone with the drive to create and develop systems that deliver results all while finding out what it feels like to be a part of a healthy church leadership team.

We’re asking for a two year “tour of duty” type of commitment. We think it will take at least two years for the system to be fully developed. At the end of the two year experience we’ll re-evaluate and re-assign you to another tour of duty or you’ll be free to thank us for the experience and “take your talents to South Beach” or wherever you feel called to next - no questions asked.

Educational / Experience Expectations:

B.A. in Pastoral Ministry / Theology or three years experience in a staff position in a local church (references mandatory and they can’t be your Mom - she’s biased).

Why we think you’ll love this:

We’re a different kind of church. A church that really does attempt to create the best possible church experience for people who typically aren't into church. We’re firm believers that you learn more through hands on experience than you could ever learn from theory, though theory is undeniably better than nothing. What’s being offered in this role is an opportunity to experience, an opportunity to create, an opportunity to fail and try again, and an opportunity to grow. And you’ll do all of that in a small community of creatives who are committed to one another and to helping people grow in their relationship with Jesus.

Our story:

In October of 2010 a group of friends decided to start a church for people who don’t like church. We started meeting for weekend services in the cafeteria at Southridge high school in Kennewick. Four years later, we moved to a new location in Richland - the Uptown Theatre. After an extensive remodel project, we held our first weekend service in October of 2014. When we took over the abandoned theater, we were committed to revitalizing it and making a community resource once again. We currently have an average weekend attendance of 300+ adults and kids. Here’s what we promise:

Patrick Lencioni wrote about the three signs of a miserable job, with the signs being:

IMMEASURABILITY: Everybody likes to feel like they’re winning. There’s nothing worse than being unaware of where you stand in terms of success at work. “Good work is hard enough already - at least let me know what the scoreboard looks like.” We promise to craft well defined objectives so that you know when you are “winning” and so that you won’t be blindsided when you’re not living up to expectations.

ANONYMITY: The intimacy of having a small team is a clear benefit in this area, however anonymity can also show up in the area of not having a voice, or not being able to contribute to the conversation about how we proceed. We promise to value your input and seek it out as a matter of what we consider to be common business principles.

IRRELEVANCY: Reflecting on your drive home over whether or not what you spent your time on today makes any difference whatsoever can be a miserable feeling. We all want to feel like we’re investing our lives into something bigger than ourselves. Because of the unique nature of church, we get to see a pretty long term (some might say: ‘eternal’) impact on those we serve.
