Position Summary

Primary responsibility of Director of Media is to oversee and provide vision and leadership for the Media Ministry at Brown Missionary Baptist Church with two campuses in Southaven, MS. This person needs to be an original thinker who feels called to a career in ministry, has exceptional character and works well with a variety of people and personalities. This person will also be responsible for casting vision in creative ways to integrate and implement media church-wide, improving and enhancing worship and ministry effectiveness.  As Director of Media, this person will be responsible for the overall production, coordination, management and supervision of Media department including all Audio, Live Video, Lighting and Staging needs for weekly worship services, Bible studies, productions, funerals, weddings, ministries’ needs, on- and off- site special events, and conferences.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the entire Media Department (audio, video, lighting and staging.)

  • Oversee and manage live audio mixing, all Image Magnification shots, video and lighting, graphics, live switching, streaming and recording of the worship services

  • Oversee radio broadcasting

  • Oversee the creation, shooting and edit of videos for the worship services and the ministries of the church

  • Work with all church ministries to provide production assistance for on-going and one-time events

  • Have knowledge and oversight of all technical equipment and software including digital audio boards, video cameras, editing and graphics equipment, switchers, servers, projectors, disc recorders, duplicators, printers, and dimmer racks.

  • Manage and maintain hardware and software equipment inventory, including software licensing, and ensure resources are in proper working condition

  • Research and select the best technology solutions that work for the ministry, providing input and recommendations for additional equipment needs and purchases

  • Manage the recruitment, development, and training of media staff and volunteers

  • Provide training on professional equipment and procedures on an ongoing basis to assist media volunteers and staff in performing their services. Also train High School volunteers for Youth Council.

  • Monitor volunteer and staff workload to maximize efficiency, yet protect them from burnout

  • Maintain an operations manual and documentation for all media processes and programs

Principal Responsibilities (cont’d)

  • Participate in worship planning and the technical aspects of services and special events

  • Ensure quality of all audio, live video, lighting and staging for all worship services and events

  • Keep current with trends in audio, video, lighting and staging

  • Develop and maintain budget and expenses for the entire Media Department

  • Provide input into church website, social media, and church video communications

  • Attend weekly staff meetings and event planning meetings, as needed

  • Oversee management of video library, bookstore, on demand archives, duplication, sales and distribution of sermons and media products

  • Willing and able to adjust work schedule based on church activities and special events, including weekends, especially Sundays and holidays

  • Bachelor degree in related field and minimum of 3-5 years of church Media experience in a live video production environment, specifically  theatrical lighting, digital audio mixers, wireless microphone technologies, IMAG, and video recording and editing

Performance Measurement

This position reports to the Executive Pastor. Specific measures of satisfactory performance, both objective and subjective, will be developed in consultation with the Executive Pastor and in harmony with the church’s mission, cultural principles, and annual leadership priorities. Measurements to include:

  • Technical needs fulfilled for all events and worship services

  • Services, productions, events, and conferences recorded as requested

  • Healthy relational integrity maintained both interdepartmentally and within church body

  • All Media equipment purchased and maintained

  • Budget developed and managed

  • Staffing hired, volunteers recruited, scheduled and managed efficiently

Performance to be evaluated and assignments reviewed in 30 days and then every 30 days for first 90 days

Satisfactory pre-employment background and reference check

Anticipated Time Commitments

Available to work 40 + hours per week
Available to work flexible hours and varying shifts to accommodate production needs and service requirements, including nights, weekends, especially Sundays  and holidays .
Available to work at short notice and able to handle constant changing priorities and demands                                     Arrive at events and services 1 hour prior to scheduled time in order to prepare for services and events

Saturday service   6:00 pm.  Main campus
Sunday Service   8:00 am - Main campus
Sunday Service   10:45 am - South campus

Sunday School    7:00 am and 9:45 am
Wednesday Bible Study. --- 12:00 noon Main campus.  6:30 pm South campus
Ministries meetings --- varies
Choir rehearsals  - Normally Thursday 7:00 pm, 2nd Tuesdays
